Help me please - I need a new computer
Mine does not have enough memory and it is very slow. I think there are alot of programs on here that are causing trouble but I can't get rid of them because they are linked to other things. I can't even download the Microsoft "fix" for the time change. I get some kind of error message. So I'm looking to buy a new one.
What am I looking for in terms of memory and processor (and anything else that is important for that matter)? I pretty much only use my computer for email, LIF (of course), Microsoft Word, photos (I just bought Photoshop Elements and want to install it), and a few other minor things.
I'm really clueless when it comes to this stuff.

All depends on how much you are looking to spend but I can give you some basics...
I don't recommend getting a system with Vista yet.
Get XP Home Edition. Get something with 1GB of RAM or more. Since you will be storing photos, looks for something with a decent amount of HDD space - 80 GB and up.
If you think you'll want to upgrade to Vista later on, make sure you get a "Vista ready" system and then all the hardware is pretty much decided for you.

Vista is the latest version of Windows. It will eventually replace Windows XP as the dominant operating system.

I've been looking into a new system as well and all I see listed is new computers with Vista. Not sure about that yet.

It's 3 years old, but it only has 256MB of RAM and at this point it is just kind of hobbling along. It still does what I need it to do, but it is very slow and as I said I have alot of trouble downloading new programs. I am hoping that getting a new computer will help with the downloading problem, otherwise I know it is just me and my no-knowledge brain.

a new computer could and would lead to the same problem depending on how the machine is operated. not to offend you but must problems comes the users of computers. yes, while replaceing it will get you more memory, you can buy and install memroy your self. if you are able to backup all of your important data (dvd's, cd's, external hard drive) i would utilize the restore cd's that came with your machine. this will format the computer back when you got it on day 1...brand new.
you may of downloaded a trojan, spyware to your machine preventing you from doing other things (like windows update). virus protection "can" help and also try programs like "Spyware Blaster" and "Spybot S&D" IF you google those, click on the first link....
If you are unaware of how to do restore or you want to attempt to fix, backup data, FM me..i'll be glad to help or do it for you if you are local around me.
I'm not telling you not to get a new pc.. just saying how this could happen again. Dell has a great offer for less then 500 bucks, you can have a solid pc
