Help me settle this food debate...
My husband is half-Italian. He grew up with his Italian father and grandparents making sauce, his own pasta, etc. GARLIC and OLIVE OIL were used on just about anything and everything.
I grew up with Irish parents, who subsequently used the following, and probably ONLY the following to spice up food: salt, pepper and butter. Butter was a staple on bread, scones, potatoes (no sour cream in my house, etc.) and particularly for breakfsat cooking...
So here's my question....DH puts olive oil on EVERYTHING! he's sweet and cooks all the time for us. One Sunday morning I wanted pancakes! He made them and used olive oil all over the pan!! UUGGHHH.... Gross. my pancakes had a green tinge and tasted gross! It may be more fattening, but butter this the way to go for me, with pancakes, french toast,fried eggs, etc.
We still argue over this.... 
What do you think?

I'm with you!!! I am 100% Italian and although I too use tons of Garlic & Olive Oil....my breakfast foods require butter only!!!!!!

Ewww, olive oil pancakes i use margarine because it has a higher burning point (butter scorches faster).

I chose other. DH uses olive oil on a lot of things, definitely eggs as far as breakfast foods go, but when it comes to pancakes we only use cooking spray. Pancakes to me are the same as brownies or cookies...basically like baked goods. I wouldn't use olive oil with those.

Yuck! I would never use Olive Oil on Pancakes, only vegetable oil.
I know what you mean about the Irish thing, my inlaws never had GARLIC in their house, my husband didn't eat anything with GARLIC until he moved out...

olive oil = savory
pancakes = sweet
no olive oil!!!! if he's SUCH an oil man, he can use canola, grape seed, or safflower (I've done that when butter is running low and you can't taste the difference)

Yucky, Yea ditto for me too, I couldnt imagine makin pancakes with oil,, Ewww. Somethings just hafta skip the oil & garlic .

I put a small pat of butter on my pancakes along with the syrup, but to cook them I use cooking spray

I use pam for EVERYTHING. FH has high cholesterol and the food still tastes great, especially with the flavored pam they have now.

I chose other as I find butter burns too quickly for pancakes. i use a drop of veggie or corn oil in pan and then use a papertowel to spread it around. Then a pat of butter goes on top of the pancakes. But no....no olive oil for breakfast and i'm italian and greek

I love olive oil, but NOT on PANCAKES. GROSS. You are right. I use cooking spray, but I would use butter if I had to. If I didn't have either, I would still never use olive oil for pancakes.
