Help me with my Valentine's day menu please!

Thinking ahead to Valentine's Day...

In the morning, I want to make cinnamon roll muffins I think...

External Image

Then for dinner...

I think maybe start with a caprese salad.. then

filet mignon au poivre

what sides?
here are some ideas... help me narrow it down! or give me other ideas...
-caesar salad
-creamed spinach
-stuffed mushrooms
-potato gratin

then for dessert, i want to try this
homemade hostess cake
(will have ganache instead of frosting outside - and maybe i'll pipe the classic swirls in pink?)

OMG Hayley-you are making me so hungry! I will do a search for good ideas for sides.

I wouldn't do Caesar salad for a side if you are doing the caprese salad.

I am thinking something with asparagus. Maybe with Hollandaise sauce? Chat Icon

Can you FM me with instructions on how to cook everything? I want to make V-day Dinner like you! We are not going out because I am going to be too cranky at 37 weeks! Chat Icon

omg, you are my cooking inspiration!

maybe greenbeans with those crunchy onions mixed in as a side to your filet mignon and definitely a potato of some sort.

I agree with this.

unfortunately I can't eat it Chat Icon but it sounds divine.

however, since I know Steve is a real health puff, I might do roasted potates for a starch insteand of the gratin, and keep the creamed spinach.

also, maybe just do sliced tomato and onion instead of caprese to lower the fat content even more???

unless he's known to pig out blissfully on special occassions, that it.

I am totally stealing and making the cinnamon roll muffins though. that reminds me......

Thanks ladies!

Steve loves to indulge for special occasionsChat Icon I think I'll go with the spinach and potato gratin.

Diamondgirl - what's on your Vday menu? I love that it's a Sunday this year... makes it perfect for cooking a nice meal at home! A cute dessert is chocolate molten cakes in heart-shaped ramekins (from Crate & Barrel) - I have a recipe if you want to make that! I think my mom might be with us for Vday though and so I didn't want it to be too romantic Chat Icon

The measurements are kind of weird because the recipe is scaled down from 8 servings to 2.

1/4 cup unsalted butter
2 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
1-1/4 large eggs
2 tablespoons sugar
Pinch of salt
1 teaspoon flour (or matzo meal, ground in a blender to a fine powder)

-Preheat oven to 450 (make sure rack is in the middle position of the oven).
-Melt butter & chocolate in double boiler (or in heat-proof bowl over saucepan of simmering water), then remove from heat.
-Beat eggs, sugar, & salt in separate bowl until sugar dissolves.
-Beat egg mixture into chocolate until smooth.
-Beat in flour until just combined.
-Grease ramekins and divide batter among them.
-Bake for 8-10 minutes (keep an eye on them) until the batter puffs up on the sides, but the center isn't set.
(optional) Top with powdered sugar and/or homemade whipped cream!

FYI: What I did was made the batter and poured it into the ramekins BEFORE I made our dinner. Then about 10 minutes before we finished eating, I stuck them into the oven, so they'd be hot and fresh when we were ready to eat dessert. You can also make them a day ahead and just pour into the ramekins and cover with plastic wrap. Make sure you bring them to room temp. before baking though Chat Icon

ETA: sorry for the poor coloring, but here's a pic:

Did you ever make the cinnamon roll muffins? I made them yesterday and they came out terrible! Not sure what I did wrong, but I would not try them again. Just wondering if anyone had any better luck with them...
