help me write a letter...
I feel so bad! Probably bc I am a first time mom but this guy that works with me just had his newborn son taken from him. Him and his wife dont ge along so she just left...with the baby! This baby is his life. You should see how happy he is. OK, everyone has their problems but c'mon there is a baby involved. So he is asking me and another social worker to write him a letter to bring to court in regard to his character. I have no idea where to begin. I tried to start it like I do letters of reference but it didnt seem to work. At least tell me how to begin or give me some helpful advice or a format etc.... Thanks so much! I know we are mostly mommies but I cant imagine someone just taking my child and I couldnt see them...scary thought IMO

Re: help me write a letter...
YOu could start.
To whom it my concern;
I am writing this letter on behalf of XXX. During the past (how many years) I have had the privledge of working with XXX and hearing about his beautiful child. Mr XX is a kind, Compasionite Father who has always been their for his son. He is unclear as to what his options are in getting some sort of visitaion rights.
( you could go on about his character and his history as a coworker)
Also, Why does he need you to write the letter? Wouldn't it be better coming from Mr X?
hope this helps

Re: help me write a letter...
Thank you! Not exactly sure why. i think he will be going to court but I think my position as a social worker and my fellow co worker social worker maybe push up the bar for him? Not sure. But Honestly, I cant see a father not being able to see their child bc 2 parents dont get along. Just a little srange.

Re: help me write a letter...
I personally wouldn't get invovled. But if you are going to type something, it needs to be in affidavit form and notarized.
You don't know how people are behind closed doors or what goes out outside of work. I'm sure all of Emma's dad's co-workers (and friends) think he is this great dad who deserves all of these pats on the back and he is FAR from that. That's what he tries to portray to others though and people believe it too.
Just speaking from another side of the equation

Re: help me write a letter...
i work in family court, and i know that unless he has a history of something serious like arrests or drug abuse, then he will definitely get visitation rights at the very least. only he knows the whole story of what happened between him and his wife, but good luck to him!

I agree! I think he will get visitation regardless.

I totally understand. I just think that he should at least have visitation. Its his child. I think a bond between parent and child is undescribeable. I think there is a necessity even if 2 people are fighting.

Unless he is abusing his child or the child's mother, he will have visitation regardless of what the mother wants. Being a social worker, I am surprised that you would think otherwise.

Well you must be thinking it based on what you wrote above. I realize why you started the post and I was suggesting to write nothing. You can write a letter, but if you don't know him outside of work, that doesn't really say much and most likely a letter like that from a co-worker wouldn't be used in a Court of Law anyway. It's a nice gesture though.

I would write the letter but write what you know. How he talks about his baby, etc at work.

What is wrong with writing a letter and letting the court decide how much weight to give to it? It's not like the person writing the letter gets to make the decision, but the letter may give some insight that can be helpful.

Re: help me write a letter...
I would write the letter base stricly on his behavior and character at work. He is dedicated to whatever project he is working on. He handles his responsiblities well...etc. good luck!
