help! My box spring doesnt fit up my stairs!

I need your help ladies! You all are so smart and always have such great ideas and I know someone will come up with a great solution. DH and I moved in 2 weeks ago and they tried to fit our queen bed up our stairs to our bedroom. The boxspring doesnt fit...they tried shoving and even made a hole in the ceiling but there is no way I can get it up there . Some people suggested cutting it in half and then screwing it back together and some said to buy a new split boxspring...but they are expensive....any other ideas?
Thanks!

i think your only option is a split box spring.

Sorry not sure of the cost of them
call sleepys or 1800 mattress and ask them

good luck

Do you have a large window upsatirs? You could take the window out, and hoist the box spring through that hole. I had this same problem, but wound up getting a split box spring.Good Luck

I called Sleepy's and a split box spring was about $200 or more. Unfortunately our window is not big enough!

That happened to us and we ended up having to return the boxspring and get the split one.

Oh, this is a shame! This happened to me before, and you basically have two options:

*If you are handy, you may be able to saw the boxspring in half and put it together again
*Buy a split boxspring

That's all I am aware of if you don't have a window large enough. If you just bought it, you may be able to exchange the one you have for a split.

Re: help! My box spring doesnt fit up my stairs!

I would say go for the split boxspring. We had a problem getting our king size mattress up the stairs. It took 5 people to try to "bend" it just a little to fit it and they wound up ripping it and making it filthy so my warranty is out the window and it was expensive.

I had the same problem when we moved into our house. We cut the box spring a little bit so that it had a little bend to it and then screwed it back together. We just bought our bed and had it for less then a year before we moved so I refused to throw it out. Our bed is as good as new. Let me know if you need more details.

We had to saw ours to bend, and now it creaks all the time...if I had to do it again, I would just go ahead and buy a split box spring.

Good luck!

Re: help! My box spring doesnt fit up my stairs!

one of my friends at work is having this same problem. i don't think there's any choice but to either cut it up or get a new one. i know when i cut up a couch a few years ago ( don't ask...) i used a hacksaw to cut through the metal...so it might work for you.

are you thinking of doing any work to your house, like widening stairs or pushing up the ceiling? maybe you can do that earlier than you originally thought?

good luck to you!

When I bought a bed a few years ago I had thisi problem. Tell the store your problem - a split box spring should not be that much money.

We had to cut down a wall to get our matress & boxspring upstairs. We were planning on cutting it anyway though.

This happened when Macy's tried to deliver my bed. They simply took the box spring away and brought back a split box spring the next day for no extra charge.
