HELP, My Daughter Just Started To Say The F-Word!

Maybe my DH or I have used it a few times in her path and boom, she started saying it. I cannot believe it! She doesn't say it like in an angry way, just sometimes will blurt it out and say it in conversation. She is 22 MOS this week! I tell her firmly, NO, bad word, but how do I get her to really stop?

TIA

DD did this too. Just ignore it Chat Icon

If you make a big deal, she knows that it will get your attention. It will go away, I promise!

Re: HELP, My Daughter Just Started To Say The F-Word!

I am guilty of it just this week.

There is a house that keeps letting their dogs loose and they poop on our lawn. And one morning I said to my husband; as I opened my DD curtains, "the f'in dogs are out!"
So my daughter excitingly says, "I want to see the f'in dogs."Chat Icon
I am usually good about what I say. I didn't acknowledge it and haven't said it again.

Re: HELP, My Daughter Just Started To Say The F-Word!

just as everyone said, just ignore it... ds saw my FIL smoke and started to pretend to smoke at home... the more I told him not to do it, the more he did it and laughed at me... since I started to ignore his behavior he actually has been doing it less and less...

Ignore it completely when it comes from DC. Warn others to do the same. Try to replace any of your expletives with something silly like fiddlesticks! or biscuits!

Charlie went through a quick phase of this at 18m...I ignored it and it went away (in less than a week). By responding to it she's getting attention...and any attention is 'good' attention to a toddler Chat Icon

i know it's bad, and it's embarassing - but to hear that tiny little person use those words it's absolutely hysterical - I DREAD the day Sean starts b/c DH's mouth is awful -
But for as Chat Icon Chat Icon as it is, it's still Chat Icon

I agree, def ignore it! Once she learns it will get a rection/ attention from you, she may keep using it. If you don't react at all to it, she will have no use for it anymore. GL!
