help picking paint color and rug color

This is our new bedding from Macys:





We are looking for a nice paint color for the walls and thoughts on colors for a large area rug. (Floors are hardwood, but DH wants a large area rug -- doesn' like the feel of hardwood on his feet first thing!)

I was thinking a very pale blue color for the walls and a darker blue rug... but then I started to wonder if that was just way too much blue. Maybe a neutral colored rug?

Any suggestions / pictures would be greatly appreciated!

I'd either go with a light blue on the walls with a tan/sand colored rug, or vice versa.
