This website is very helpful. Sometimes they offer great hotel deals! If anything it can give you things to do! DH and I went and stayed in old city. Very nice and romantic down there...

Re: help planning a philadelphia trip
i grew up right outside philly in south jersey the franklin institute is a cool science museum to go to.... the NJ state aquraium is right over the bridge in camden, NJ... i think theres even a ferry that takes you over there from philly. its been redone, and its pretty cool to see! you can also be all "Rocky" and run up the steps of the art museum LOL and definitely check out old city with the liberty bell, constitution hall, the Reading (red-ing) terminal market
ETA: the haunted prison tour is REALLY cool- its at east state penitentiary (sp???) not sure when in october they start doing it, but its around halloween-- its a pretty cool thing to do! philly zoo is nice, too- nothing TOO amazing though, but worth checking out

Re: help planning a philadelphia trip
ok i'm back
I've been kinda out of it since Fri! :cough cough cough:
here's the thread i posted when we got back
we stayed at the Westin Philadelphia - got a great rate through hotels.com. The hotel is beautiful and the beds are AMAZING. Nice location too - definitely walking distance to everything you'd want to see. Attached to a mall/shops, right across the street from a 24 hr rite aid, etc.
We had a fantastic meal at Fogo de Chao - a brazilian steakhouse. It's $40 per person and all you can eat. Includes salad bar, side dishes, and like 15 different meats. yum! It's maybe 3-4 blocks from the hotel. link to restaurant site
We did the typical constitution hall, liberty bell, the rocky steps, walked through the free part of the art museum, etc. DH had never been to philly and being a teacher, he was was pretty amused. John Legend gave a free July 4th concert on the steps of the museum with some fireworks at the end.
We also went to a Mets game one night.
It was a relatively inexpensive weekend trip - a great little getaway!
