Help please: questions about baby eczema/extremely dry skin???
Took my DD to Dr. yesteday (actually it was a nurse practioner b/c her Dr. was out of the office)....she has what I thought is a terrible rash...well nurse practioner said she has extremely dry skin/dermatitis.
She told me to slather her in Aquaphor and Cetaphil cream. My question is...for those BTDT moms, does eczema look REALLY red and blotchy?? Poor DD really looks so rashy...she has blotchy red spots ALL over her tummy and in weird patches on her arms and legs...is this really what eczema looks like or was she maybe misdiagnosed and this IS a rash of some sort??

DD has eczema and has these same red patches on her tummy. If I miss putting cream on her, they reappear.

Re: Help please: questions about baby eczema/extremely dry skin???
Yes that is what it looks like. When DS gets a breakout I put cream on him twice a day until it clears up and when it does then I put it on only at night. My DD also has it but for her I am constanly putting cream on her because her skin is like dried out leather and looks tight if I don't put anything on. If you put the Auqaphor on 2-3 times a day the patches should clear up in a week.
Also try not to give her a bath often, I did 2 times a week because the water is her enemy.

Yes, that's how it looks like. I have very dry/sensitive skin myself with ezcema tendencies and I use Cetaphil lotion all the time. Otherwise, I will have rashes, mostly on my face. Cetaphil is the only one that has worked for me for years.

Thanks...this helps a lot. I have been wondering how long it will take to clear up. Right now it's only been a day and it is soooooooo red. Poor baby got cursed with my dry skin.

It does sound like eczema. The only way to keep my DS's under control is to religiously moisturize when he wakes up and then again before bed. If it skip it at all it starts to reappear.
