Help! Rooster issues....
Strange post, but I thought it was a fantastic quarantine idea to incubate chicken eggs. It was a great project. Out of a dozen, we got 4 to hatch. Two of the four were roosters. We've had them for few months, of course the kids got attached, but they've started crowing and even pecking us. I need a way to get rid of them. Any idea who would take them??? Will DH and I need to humanely euthanize them? Every time I hear them crow I think of how annoyed my neighbors must be.

Roosters aren’t allowed on most of the island. Where did you get them from?
I would look into some of the farms out East-Suffolk county farm at Yaphank, etc. They may be able to help.

Help! Rooster issues....
Our neighbor had a rooster bc the chicks couldn't be sexed right away and was able to find a farm to take it. Call around or I’m sure there are local chicken groups on Facebook.

There’s a poultry farm in Huntington that might take them. I used to hatch ducks and chicks with my class when I taught kindergarten and they would take them at the end of the school year.

What about holtsville ecologt site?
I know they have a bird area.
Although I haven't been there in a while, I am not sure what is still there.
I have to say I love hearing a rooster. always makes me feel like I am on vacation because you usually hear them in tropical climates

Re: Help! Rooster issues....
I would really implore you not to euthanize them. This type of situation happens too often with all different types of animals.
I typed "rooster rescue Long Island" into Google, a number of results came up. I didn't look into them extensively, but I imagine, at the least, some result on the list could point you in the right direction. I'm thinking that if you searched in nearby areas of upstate NY or PA, more rural areas, you may get some results too.

Re: Help! Rooster issues....
Ok so I know a lot of people with backyard chickens and it happens a lot. There aren't a lot of places that take the roosters. You can post them online and people will take them for free for **** fighting or baiting fight dogs. So please don't do that. The farms that do take them usually end up killing them to be eaten. This is why the egg industry is so cruel, usually the males are discarded (ground up alive to be used in animal feed) as soon as they can be sexed.
Most of the people I know with backyard chickens, wait until the roosters are a decent size and then kill and eat them (as humanely as possible of course), or they give them to a farm knowing the same is going to happen. At first it was hard for them, but that's farm life. I can see why it's difficult to eat something that you probably named, but (more than likely) it's going to happen anywhere you re-home them.
The roosters probably had a better life than any chicken you'd buy in the grocery store. I know it sounds awful, but it's just not possible to save all the males. The farms that have hens, don't need a ton of roosters. Most only keep 1 on the farm, or they just borrow one when they need to breed more chicks (because they don't want all inbred hens). Obviously they can't risk a bunch of roosters running around fertilizing all the eggs.

Re: Help! Rooster issues....
I found them a home on a farm out east!! Not sure if they will be killed and eaten, but at least if that is the case it is by someone who knows how to do it properly. We will be dropping them off on Friday. I am expecting some tears from my kiddos.

Help! Rooster issues....
My neighbor had a rooster. The thing roamed the neighborhood freely and would come to my window at the asscrack of dawn and crow at my window. I chased the thing, sprayed with a hose, couldn't get rid of it. I will never forget the time my other neighbora caught me fresh out of the shower with a towel on my head at 7am chasing it out of my yard with a broom...

Re: Help! Rooster issues....
My thoughts are for everyone and anyone
I urge anyone thinking of raising animals to really think it through, this scenario is similar to Easter when parents buy cute chicks or baby bunnies, for their kids. Babies are cute until they grow up into adulthood and no one wants to keep them, they become loud, cost money and can cause damage depending on where they are kept. In addition some animals are no appropriate for the area one lives in
OP I'm writing this based on your situation. I feel strong feelings about this topic, though I know you didn't expect this was going to happen. This is also meant as a general message. As an life long animal lover and trained in animal care I see and hear of this often
