Help. Separation anxiety is getting worse!
Ok, this is absolutely insane. I'm not joking when I say that Alex wants to be held 24/7, by me and me only. It has gotten to the point now where she will scream when I put her in her crib for nighttime, and beg for me to hold her, when for the last 2-3 months, she used to ask to go to her crib and would voluntarily go in without a problem.
For example - this morning, DH got up with her, dressed her, fed her, and then I came into the room. I picked her up for a few minutes, held her, said good morning, chatted with her, and then went to put her down to snack on her cheerios and she had a FIT. She wanted to be in my arms for about 40 minutes before we went to school.
Dh tells me it's because I spoil her and the reason why she doesn't do it to him is because he'll ignore her. I don't have the heart to ignore my baby when she begs to be held by me, but this is bordering on INSANE.
Any BTDT moms have any wise techniques for dealing with separation anxiety?

Yikes! That sounds tough! Michael went through a phase like that with me as well... although, I don't think as bad...
Is there a way you can have a little Mommy time in the mornings? Very little as I'm sure you all have to get ready. I'm sure it's because she knows she's headed for school for the day and won't see you for a couple of hours. But if you can hold her for that long, try playing with her for 15-20 minutes. I'm babbling here, but what I mean is DON'T ignore her - I don't blame you for not doing that - I couldn't do it either. Tell her, "no honey, Mommy can't pick you up, but how about we ______" and suggest a little morning activity. Maybe that will work.
Good luck and 's

Re: Help. Separation anxiety is getting worse!
Maddie was a Mommy's girl (and still is). What helped was leaving the house & allowing Daddy to be the main caregiver for a day or 2 in a row.
It wasn't intentional - it was more that my weekends were completely booked up with hellping out others for a while. She started to depend on him more.
It also helped him to have more confidence in dealing with her. She only wanted him if I wasn't around for her entire toddlerhood.

That's the thing. Daddy spends most of the morning with her. I come in the last 10-20 minutes, get her cleaned up and out the door for school and in those 10-20 minutes, she freaks. She freaks when we come home too. For the last week, anytime we are home, together, Alex has a fit unless I am physically holding her or on the floor with her within an inch or two

No advice, but I don't agree that its because you spoil her. Daddy makes himself feel better so let him think so. I believe it is a stage that she will grow out of....Before you know it she will be daddy's little girl so enjoy her while you can, if you can. Hope you survive this stage...lol.

Bella has the same reactions sometimes. It is not due to you spoiling her, it's the connection she has with you...which is a good thing. I hope it eases for you soon...
Thanks

I agree I don't think its because of spoiling at all.

Has anything changed recently? Schedules maybe?
I really have no advice...just wondering if something specific set this off. If not, it's probably just a phase and it'll pass (hopefully) quickly.
Jake was like this on our trip to FL over Christmas. He was 17 months then. He was over it after being home for a day or two.

No changes I do know she has been teething - the 2nd year molars are coming in, but she's never been this clingy when teething, and there are days when she's just fine, no teething pain or symptoms, and she's still just as clingy.
Guess I'll have to continue with my mantra... HOPEFULLY this too shall pass

DD is very clingy too. It always happens at dinner time or when I'm doing dishes. I try to give her a little love, and then I put her down because I can't get anything done while I'm holding her. I'm not sure its a spoiled thing - I honestly feel like its a phase because she wasn't always like this. Like you, I feel like this is one of those, this too shall pass phases.
