HELP! What can we do????
Long story short, a dog was abandoned in the dog run in Forest Park this morning. We went at 4:30pm with our dog and were told by others that he had been there since 9am. Someone brought him food, and he had been confined to a smaller run within the larger run. About 10 of us spent hours calling around to 311, the local precinct, shelters we could think of, EVERYTHING, and were not given ANY help. I finally spoke to a supervisor at 311 who told me there was NOTHING THEY COULD DO because animal care was closed on Sundays. I actually said to him 'so you are telling me that as NYC residents and taxpayers who are concerned about the well-being of a dog, the city will not help us at this time?' and was answered yes.
A guy at the park went into the area with the dog and was trying him out for agressiveness etc. and is hopefully going to try to drop him at a shelter tomorrow if the dog seems alright to go home with him and his dogs. I am outraged by this! What, if anything, can we do????

omg. I can't think of anything else to do! Some city we live in. NYCACC is such a high kill shelter anyway there's not much hope for that dog unfortunately

Thanks! They are closed now (past 4pm on Sunday). A wonderful guy from the park took the dog home tonight and is going to call around to various shelters tomorrow.
I'm just SO angry at the person who did this and the response from local "service" agencies. Ha! Service my a$$!!!

What a real beast to do that to your pet. I am not sure where to suggest. Hopefully the guy who took him can find him a home.
