Help! What happened to my good sleeper?
I have no idea what's going on. We used to be able to put her to bed with no real issue. She may fuss/cry for a minute or two but that was is. Now all of a sudden she screams bloody murder at bed time. I try to let her cry but I just can't do it. It's not like her to cry so to let it go on and on just seems cruel. Do I assume it's teething and give her tylenol? She doesn't act like she's in pain any other time during the day though, just when we put her to bed. She immediately stands up and screams. Any idea what could be going on? Could she be afraid of the dark (although her room isn't that dark), nightmares?

Re: Help! What happened to my good sleeper?
I've been going through the same thing with DD for the past 4 nights and it's making me crazy! She never went to sleep "easily" but, now, she completely freaks out and screams to the point where she sometimes throws up. I'm sorry I can't offer any advice...just know you're not alone!!

If it was in the middle of the night i'd say she is having nightmares... but if it is as soon as you put her on the crib, I'd think that it could be teething. When they are tired they are less tolerant to the pain. Good luck and I hope it gets better soon.

Well I gave her Tylenol and rocked her to sleep but it's 10pm here, way too late for her to be finally falling asleep.

Re: Help! What happened to my good sleeper?
Jacob has been doing the same thing and I wouldn't chalk it up to teething... I used to put Jacob to bed without any problems.. I think your daughter and Jacob are around the same age and it could be sepration anxiety.. It happens again betwwen 15-18 months.
I to did not want him to cry it out but yesterday we finally did and after a half an hour he fell asleep.. It's like I have to retrain him all over again..
i know it is difficult, but unfortunately from reading and asking my brother( ped) there is nothing you can really do...
At least you know that you are not the only one out there with the same problems...

Re: Help! What happened to my good sleeper?
Sounds like it could be a number of things... separation anxiety, teething, milestone, etc... Does she just give you a hard time going down for the night, or is she waking during the night as well and crying out? If it's just at the moment you put her in her crib, I'd say it's probably separation anxiety, but if she's also not sleeping as well and waking up periodically and crying out, it's probably teething (or, in our case, Alex does that when she's developing an ear infection). If she's crying out during all times at the night, and it keeps up for a few days, I'd take her to the doc just to check her out.

Before giving us a problem going to bed she started waking up crying during the night. Sometimes she would settle back down and other times I would have to go in and get her back to sleep. This has been the past few days the going to bed thing. Naps seem to be OK, it's just bedtime. Naps she'll fuss a few minutes but not the hysterics that bedtime brings. I know at her 15 month the ped. said that she has a lot of teeth ready to push through (she only has 4 teeth still). Uggh I don't know. I don't think it's an ear infection, she's never had one and everytime I think she does I take her in and it's teething. I guess if things get worse I'll take her in. It just stinks that she's only sleeping 9 hours instead of 11-12.

By what you describe, it sounds like she's probably teething. It's true, that when they're teething, it gets worse at night. Alex at one time had 4 molars pushing through at the same time. We didn't sleep for 3 weeks straight, though she napped just fine. But she would cry at bedtime and would cry out periodically through the night. Those molars are tough, and painful. If it keeps up, I'd give her some motrin about 30 minutes before bedtime, and just to be safe, take her to the doc to rule out an ear infection, even if she's never had one...
