Help! Which bottle/NIPPLE did you switch to when you came home from the hospital? (bottle fed only)

What bottle/nipple did you use when you came home from the hospital and your child was using the disposable bottle with a latex nipple?

DD is a good eater and we had been using Similac in the 2 oz small bottle in the hospital, with the latex nipple. Now that are are home and ready to use bottles, we tried our Born Free w/silicone nipple and DD really had a hard time sucking to get the formula from the bottle. Next feeding I tried my Evenflo BPA free bottles w/silicone nipples, she did better but I could still tell she preferred the nipples on the small disposable bottles from the hospital.

So Dh and I wanted to see what DD was experiencing, since she sucks so hard and wants to eat so much but really was having a hard time. So we tried out the hospital latex nipple w disposable bottle, the Born free and the Evenflo. We also tried a Playtex BPA free drop in with the latex nipple. Born free and Evenflo were so hard to suck compared to the hospital similac bottle with the latex nipple. And the Playtex nipple seemed most like the hospital nipple but I didn't want to use latex or drop ins for that matter.

So what did you use when you came home from the hospital and how did it work out?

DD has been using Dr Browns since she came home and is a great eater. Every 3 hours during the day and about every 6 hours overnight. Everyone I know who uses them has had great experiences. Good luck!

The only reason I didn't pick them is b/c I dont recall them being BPA free. Are they?

Thanks for your reply. I will look into them.

I dont believe they are, but my DD takes her formula at room temp so I don't warm the bottles at all. I spoke to my pediatrician and she said it would be fine. I did read on another post a long time ago that Dr Browns was supposed to be coming out with BPA free options, but I haven't seen them. I think they do have glass bottles though too.

When we first came home dd used Avent. Then with the whole BPA thing we switched to the drop-ins and she has been using them ever since. With both though we use the silicon nipples.

I did notice that the Playtex most closely resembled the disposable nipples. Also, the medela bottles (which are BPA free) but the problem with those is that they flow really fast and she had some trouble at first but we let her drink from them anyway and she was fine. Sometimes she choked a little bit but nothing horrible. We primarily use the Born Free though but I agree with PP, she only gets bottles room temp and if you hand wash (not dishwasher) then you can try any bottle.

We use the Playtex drop ins with the slow flow. Never had a problem

We used Advent, Born Free and then eventually wound up with Dr. Browns (wide neck). They all have similar nipples.

the playtex drop ins system is all BPA free, but we don't heat up DS's formula anyway so i never worried. DS likes those nipples the best and even though they are kind of wide i think they are closest to the hospital nipples.

We were also using the Similac 2 oz bottles in the hospital and started him at home with the Dr. Browns glass 3.5 ounce bottles and he has had no problem whatsoever with them so we are really happy with them.

you di exactly what I did.... evenflo and born free

since many glass bottles are $, I suggest you invest in one pack of level 2 born free nipples.... level 1's are soooo slow. DS loves the level 2's

he also doesn't mind the evenlos with silicone nipples

Re: Help! Which bottle/NIPPLE did you switch to when you came home from the hospital? (bottle fed only)

After trial and error of literally over 6 bottles and nipples, it seems DD takes the Playtex drop ins the best due to the nipple. I didn't want to rely on a drop in system and I also didn't want to use a latex nipple but since she has no issues with the latex and neither do we, I guess I have no choice. Poor thing was just so hungry but not doing well with the other bottles/nipples.

We used Playtex Drop ins with the silicone slow nipple. Never have an issue. DS was BF and FF for the first month and then just bottle fed.

We used Dr. Browns glass bottles and then when they were BPA free we used those (the plastic). Never had any problems and I actually loved the small glass bottles (I think they go up to 4 ounces).

No reason, I have to get to the store to buy them and try them. Seemed any silicone nipple we tried DD didn't like, but it was probably more the shape than what it was made of. The shape of the Playtex nipples is what she likes best so if the silicone is the same shape, I will have to check it out. DH ran to BRU yesterday but didn't seem to find them, I will have to see.
