Help whoever has a 4 yrs old please help ???
My DS is 4 yrs old and his baby sister is going to be 4 mths at the end of the month , And he is jealous, doesnt understand, or does he ? Here is one of the problems He will run all day long up and down the hallway ? Stamp his feet also in front of his sisters room when you tell him the first 4 times you are nice and sweet and you go to his level and tell him that it scares his sister and please stop doing it and then 3 min later he is doing the same thing. Doesnt sit still for 1 min, for anything, Not even at the dinner table. We have a train set around the Xmas tree we have told him a half a million times that you cant go really fast the train will fall of the track and he continues to do it all day long. I was talking to my DH today do you think My DS has a problem ?? Maybe I should have him checked for a learning disability ??? Help I am so worried or is he fine and just doesnt want to hear us. But the problem is also I feel horrible telling him the same thing and getting so mad, that at the 5 time I am telling him I am yelling at him ... Is this normal ???

Is it normal to yell at your 4 year old? Definitely. I started yelling when he was about 3.
Four years old is old enough to understand. I would say even a two year old should understand no stomping or you'll wake the baby. Stomping his feet could be a sign of jealousy or could just be a 4 year old stomping his feet.
Depending on how much the not sitting still thing could be a sign of a disability. I know there are many teachers on this site that can give muc better advice. I would say if you're concerned he has a disability, then get him tested. For me it was worth the peace of mind to find out that my son's behavior was normal and it was only frustration that he was dealing with in daycare. Often they'll give you a form to fill out (a Conner's test??? I believe) & will have the pre-school if he's in it fill it out as well. I know one thing they ask is what type of life changes has he had recently. For Joseph, it was yet another bout of croup with steroids.
As for the trains....that sounds like more fun watching them fly off the tracks. I'm sure my 3, 5 & 38 year old would be doing the same thing.
Hang in there! It does get easier with them - and even easier, at least for me, once you know if it's an internal issue.

It's frustrating, particularly in the beginning with a new baby. I remember looking at my son after Maddie was born & thinking "He's so big!" followed by "Why is he talking so loud?!" It was his normal voice but a few days in the hospital & I was used to hushed tones.

I think 4 is too soon to be accurately diagnosed even if there is a problem.
But my DS will be 4 next month and sounds very similar. he hears what he wants to hear. He LOVES to stomp his feet and runs back and forth all day long. We are constantly asking him not to, (often yelling) because we feel bad for our downstairs neighbor.
He says bad words sometimes, occasionally hits, yells and does the opposite of what we tell him to.
I think its all par for the course. This is a fun age though, they are definitely showing their autonomy!
