Help with a 1st Birthday Gift
I figured this would be the best place to post. My niece is turning 1 in a couple of weeks and I am not sure what to get her.
I don't want to get toys or clothing-- she has a ton of clothes and my brother and SIL are living in a temporary apartment so I don't want more crap for them to try to find a place for.
I was thinking something education related-- maybe something that is like an investment of some sort-- I don't know.
Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Re: Help with a 1st Birthday Gift
What about opening a 529B plan for her or buying her Disney stock or even a saving bonds. Plus get her a little something to open.

thanks-- I like the Disney stock idea-- and we know that;s not going to tank.
I do still plan to get her a little something.
What do you think is appropriate to spend? What do your brothers and sisters spend on your kids?

Re: Help with a 1st Birthday Gift
My brother usually spends about $50 and my sister usually spends up to $150. I usually try to spend somewhere between $75-125.

Re: Help with a 1st Birthday Gift
Ok-- so if I do the stock thing-- most of the stocks I am considering are like about $30/share.
I was thinking about getting 2 shares like of Disney or whatever- then a stuffed animal or Mickey or Minnie.. DH thinks that 2 shares are weird.
What do you guys think?

I think that is awesome -- you could get the 2 shares of disney stock -- a stuffed minnie and micky or micky ears, a t-shirt/sweatshirt --- they have so much stuff in the disney store that you could chose from.
where do you buy disney stock from?

I'll probably get it from e trade or something. I am going to talk to a friend who is in finance and figure out the best way.
