Help with New Jersey....

So I went away on a cruise last week and return to my office today. While I was out of the office they announced the my division will be moving from Manhattan to Parsippany NJ in June 2007. To say the least I am in total shock!

Now I know NY like the back of my hand but when it comes to NJ I have no clue.

Can any of you recommend a nice place to live in NJ where my husband can commute easily to Manhattan and I will have a "normal" drive to Parsippany, should we decide to leave NY.
Does it exist?

Thanks for your help!!

Re: Help with New Jersey....

Parsippany is a huge hub of office buildings so it's a pretty nice place to work (I'm trying to find a job there!). But I don't believe they have that good of "mass transit" - I could be wrong, maybe a bus that goes from Port Authority to there could help in case you don't want to leave NY.

Anyway, I would suggest a place similar to where I live because of the commuting options.

Montclair has many train stations and Wayne has some great park and rides. Clifton has good trains too. The commute from both places to Parsippany would be about 20-30 mins. depending on traffic.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Re: Help with New Jersey....

I too live in NJ. South Orange, Montclair, Maplewood, Milburn all have excellent commuting into NYC (30 minutes by train). Parsippany is not far and an easy commute by car. Morristown, Madison, Chatam, Springfield, Summit,,,, same thing.

Feel free to FM me with any questions. I've lived in Jersey for quite some time now.

we live in Lyndhurst and my DH commutes to East Hanover- which is by there... about 30-40 minutes by car. I go into the city- and it takes me about 40 minutes door to door.

Other options are Livingston and Florham Park

Livingston and Florham Park are nice, but there are no convienent forms of mass transit into the city. We have cousins and know other people in Livingston (which is two towns over from us), that will come to South Orange (where I live) and take the train into the city, or the Bus from West Orange.

Re: Help with New Jersey....

Thank you all for all of your input. I am totally overwhelmed and have so many big decisions to make.

My DH really does not want to move to the burbs yet. We currently live in Forest Hills and he wants nothing more to live in Manhattan. I personally don't really care either way. I love Forest Hills, but would be fine in the city or in the suburbs. I do however refuse to commute over 1 hour, especially when my commute right now is only 30 min door to door on a bad day.

As of right now it seems that my only option is Hoboken, which seems to be a sizeable commute to Parsippany. Aside from that my other option is that I can look for another job.

Did I mention that we moved into our current place this past January and I had not intentions of moving for at least another year or so, lol. Moving is my least favorite activity!!!

I am really banging my head against the wall, lol....Chat Icon Chat Icon
