Help with Venice hotels
We pretty much decided on a Mediterranean cruise... and it ends in Venice. I was thinking about extending our stay there by a few days instead of coming home right when the cruise ends. Does anyone have a hotel in Venice to recommend or a hotel/things to do in the area surrounding Venice?

Re: Help with Venice hotels
Here's info I got from someone very knowledgable on these boards last month VENICE: St. Mark's Square - a must The Rialto Bridge - nice to see, quick The Doge's Palace -takes some time touring, imo a must The Grand Canal - easily seen in route St. Mark's Church -a must The Bridge of Sighs - a must, quickly seen Riva degli Schiavoni - quickly seen Campanile di San Marco- quick Santa Maria della Salute - don't remember this The Accademia Bridge.- quickly seen Gondola Ride down the Grand Canal (kiss your sweetheart under the bridge of Sighs)-IMO was a must, overly priced but sooo worth it! If you have time...Murano Glass Factory on Murano Island...not necessary but cool to see (expensive)

Re: Help with Venice hotels
First I want to tell you that I'm soooo jealous--I went to Italy on my honeymoon and Venice was absolutely incredible.
We stayed at the Hotel San Clemente or San Clemente Palace...something like that. It is on its own island outside of "mainland" Venice and is gorgeous!
I totally agree with Elbee's list. I will add that you MUST visit St. Mark's Square in the evening/night. 4 orchestras play classical music outdoors every night. I went on my first night in Italy and I bawled like a baby. It was one of the most moving experiences of my life!

Re: Help with Venice hotels
Julie, we stayed at the San Marco Palace - it was a very short walk to St Marks Sq for a fraction of the price.
Call them directly - you'll get the best deal (as opposed to hotels.com or travelocity, etc.)
here's a good link: http://www.veniceby.com/sanmarcopalace/

I stayed in Grand Carlson (sp?) It was nice, not sure of the price since we were on a tour
