Help...I think DD has some kind of virus! (Updated below)
So I came home from work today to find my DD not acting like herself. I kiss her head and sure enough she has a fever. The afternoon proceeds without a problem. I get her in the bath and she keeps saying, "Out, out". I take her out and start drying her off and she goes ballistic...uncontrollable crying. I wrap her in the towel and sit with her on the couch. I go to give her some Tylenol & she vomits all over me and the couch. I carry her to her room to at least get a diaper on her & again projectile vomits everywhere. I get the diaper on and go back toward the living room (holding her) and she pukes in the hallway. It was everywhere. Thank god for my SIL who came rushing over and cleaned everything up b/c DD wouldn't let me put her down.
Okay so here are my questions:
I got her to sleep but she has a fever of about 100-101. Do I wake her to take her temp later & attempt Tylenol again (I didn't get any in before)? Tomorrow AM what do I give her to drink? Pedialite? Flattened ginger ale? What should I feed her? Crackers?
And just so I feel ready...should I expect her to vomit in the night? TIA

Re: Help...I think DD has some kind of virus!
Yup that sounds like a virus.
For the nights i only do an ear temp.
I have done both rectal and ear at the same time so i know the difference between the two. So that if i take an ear temp i have a good idea what the rectal will be.
So i just take an ear temp. If he has a fever i gave motrin. IMO it works 100% better than tylenol.
Tomorrow i would give Pedialyte in the am and if she holds it down i would start back on her reg feedings.
edited: If it is like the virus my DS had a few months ago then yes i would expect she might vomit again. My DS started at 3 am and vomited on and off for about 3 hours or so

Re: Help...I think DD has some kind of virus!
yup sounds like the stomach bug. Just try to keep her hydrated with anything....small sips. You can try crackers. DD couldn't keep ANYTHING down. If the tylenol doesn't stay down, you may have to do the suppository.
We ended up in the ER because she couldn't keep fluids or solids down and was so listless and lethargic. They gave her zofran and within the 15 min she was keeping down Powerade

Re: Help...I think DD has some kind of virus!
UPDATE: Thanks for all of the advice.
She had a miserable night of sleep, didn't throw up but was awake crying a lot. This morning she just laid on me for 2 hours watching Elmo and asking for milk every 5 minutes. I gave her some water and apple juice and they stayed down. She had 3 crackers and some cheerios & she seemed to perk up. The fever is gone. I just put her down for a nap and will try giving her milk when she wakes up.
I guess at 18-months-old I should consider myself lucky that this was her first stomach bug.

Re: Help...I think DD has some kind of virus!
Pedialyte through a syringe every 5-10 minutes.
Bananas, rice cereal, applesauce, toast. (Brat diet)
I hope she feels better soon!

I hope she feels better. I would hold off on milk for another day or so.

Re: Help...I think DD has some kind of virus! (Updated below)
Gavin had this on Sunday, but he vomited for about 6 hours. He gave it to me on Tuesday and my husband on Wed. The most misserable week of our lives. He is 9 months old and its so scary because he was just so listless. I kept giving him pedialite and finally he kept it down. ITs 5 days later and he's still not eating what he did before. I'm still giving him the BRAT diet. I would go slow on giving more foods to your DD, pedialite and bananas, applesauce etc. At least for a few days. I'm glad she is feeling better. Its the worst!!! Now its going through daycare. Take care of yourself as well!!
