Helping a pre-school deal with the death of a parent
I am a pre-school teacher, and one of my students lost her father very suddenly. She will probably know by the weekend that her father has passed. She is almost 4 years old, and my assistant and I are trying to prepare for any possible emotions she may have or questions she or other students overhearing may have...does anyone have any experience or suggestions? We have been taking it day by day, but at such a young age it's difficult to understand. Any advice or books that are appropriate would be appreciated!

I'm not pre school, but we were advised not to mention it at all (8 year olds) and to be very cognizant of what we were covering.
When they got back, we could say "I missed you" neutral sayings.

Which I would normally do with older children. The problem I'm having is that with young children they tend to blurt things out, how their feeling, things going on at home, etc. So I know this little girl is going to mention it and the other children are going to overhear.
This father passed away about two weeks ago and mom did not tell her right away, so we kept her routine as normal as possible and were conscious of any changes in her behavior/demeanor and would keep mom in the loop. I'm just not sure if I should be doing more or should be preparing for the emotions that will come when she finds out.

Do you have a School Psychologist or Social Worker that can assist you with this? It is difficult since the little girl does not know that her father has passed. Hopefully they are getting her some outside counseling to help her in dealing with the emotions she is going to be dealing with. I would google the topic. GL
