Helping your baby learn to go from laying to sitting up?

Is there any way to help teach your baby to go from laying down to sitting up on their own?

DD loves sitting up and she's finally mastered getting back down from a seated position without smacking her giant head on the ground, but once she's back horizontal, she rolls and rolls and gets so frustrated at not being able to sit back up!

I know she'll eventually learn how, but just like helping her do the tripod helped her learn to sit up on her own, is there some sort of exercise/positioning I can do to help her figure out this next step to do it herself?

I have DD hold my fingers and say "one, two, threeeeeeeee!" and on 3 she tightens her stomach muscles and lifts her head. I have to help her get all the way up, but I think it's helping her get stronger AND practice the motion.

She'll get it eventually, but both my kids were able to do it best by pushing up on their arms and then kind of swinging their legs underneath them... not sure if you can "show" her how to do it though.

I used to do this with DD from the time she was very young. I would help her pull up from laying down on the changing table.

We used to do this with DD. When she was on her back, she'd always be trying to get up so I'd do this. She thought it was a fun game and would start laughing when she got all the way up.

After struggling forever to help DS, I learned for him the best thing was to let him be and develop the right muscles to do it himself.

IMO, you need more than abs to sit up straight with good posture. IMO, leave her flat on her back and let her figure it out, she will twist and turn and work it out, let her. If she really wants to sit, she will get it, and she will thank you for a great posture later in life.

Thank you, ladies! We already do the crunch-type exercise with her and she loves to roll all over the place. I'll just keep encouraging her and we'll wait and see. My friend said her daughter didn't start getting to seated on her own until closer to 8 1/2 months so I'm sure with time she'll get there. Chat Icon

Also lots of playing on her side! She will eventually learn to prop up on her elbow while on her side and then will learn how to push her self up from her side.
(I hope this makes sense...I am a ped PT and I am much better at showing how to do something rather than writing)

Hmm... I can try to put her on her side more, but any time I put her on her side, she just rolls over to her back or her belly... and over and over and over. The girl is a rolling machine! Sometimes I look up, and she's on the other side of the living room! But I will try! Thanks!
