Help...my lawn looks crappy--anything I can do now??? Or did I miss the boat on this one?
We did everything right, but we still have crab grass. Does anyone know of anything that I can put down now?

I'm not an expert on lawn care what so ever but I think it is too late in the season to throw anything down now - you will end up burning whatever you throw down - especially with this heat...Can you go to your local nursery and see when they recommend put something down?
My brothers been having a hard time getting rid of crabrass also - he did all the steps that were necessary at the right time of year but it still is there...he decided to just rip it all out next spring and put sod down...he figures if he has to buy all of these chemicals every year to get rid of it- he'll get his money's worth with new sod...

I highly recommend the Scott's fertilizer. It comes in 4 stages. I think the one for right now is for late summer. You can find it at any nursery or home depot and just ask them if you can put it down. You won't see a difference until you go through one full cycle maybe sooner but it definitely works if you have the patience.

It's not too late to try to improve it if you can water the grass regularly. Due to my DH's obsession with having the nicest looking grass in our neighborhood, he put down fertilizer last week that burned the sh!t out of it. He's furious with himself.
He had to rake up the dead grass, thatch it and put down new seed. He is now watering it twice a day. Be careful using fertilizer if the weather is too hot or you don't have enough irrigation.

We have it too and I spoke to my neighbor - who has NONE - he said we have to put crabgrass preventive in the fall and again in March, before it begins to grow. Apparently the only thing you can do now is pull it out, we can't there is way too much!

I have it too and my neighbor has none. He put stuff down in the fall and spring.
It looks horrible. I'm going to head to the nursery and see if they can recommend anything.
I feel like paving over my entire front lawn!
