Hemangioma
DD was born with a hemangioma on the top of her head. When she was born it was flat and as the months have gone on it has raised up quite a bit (which is normal). I took her to a pediatric derm. today for a second opinion and she suggested seeing a plastic surgeon to have it lasered or cut out. Having it cut out would be a bigger process...she would have to see a neuro surgeon and have an MRI to make sure it wasn't connected to anything major in her head. I made an appointment for the plastic surgeon for next week.
Finally to my question...Has anyone's DC had a hemangioma that has been lasered or removed?

Re: Hemangioma
Maddie has one but it's dissapated over the years & didn't need to be removed.
If you look in related posts below, you'll see a good post about them & some more info.

Re: Hemangioma
One of my friend's daughter did. It was a quick procedure and she had it lasered out...no sign of it at all today.

Re: Hemangioma
my gf's nephew was born with one right on the tip of his nose- he just had surgery. Dr. Waner in NYC is the #1 surgeon who removes these. I would highly rec you do a consultation with him before doing anything.
You can do a search on him and see all of his qualifications- you will be pleasantly surprised.
Its a hassle to find the right one. what ped derm have you seen?

Re: Hemangioma
Taylor has one on the top of her head, the ped. referred us to a pediatric dermatologist, we saw Dr Hayman (loved him). When she was born, it was flat, but in the first few weeks, it became red and raised. She is now 11 months and its starting to go down and a lot of the red is coming out of it. He didn't recommend surgery or lasering though.

Re: Hemangioma
DD had one on the side of her head and also had surgery w/Dr Waner also in Sept last year. It was too big for lasers.
I recommend lasering first if you can (if its not too big/deep) - I know there is a good place in NYC that specializes (but I forget the name, sorry). Just because it is less invasive and due to where you said it is, maybe that will do the trick first..
DD's surgery went well, and I would recommend her drs if you need surgery, though. They are wonderful.
Good luck!! feel free to FM if you want.

I saw Dr. Funt for the first consultation and didn't care for her and today I saw Dr. Sussner.
Dr. Sussner referred us to Dr. Surnoff in Greenvale and Dr. Geranemous in Manhattan. I made an appointment with Dr. Quintana (Surnof's office) first because they are closer but I will def. look to get a second opinion from another plastic surgeon if I don't feel comfortable with them.

Dr. Geranimos is an EXCELLENT dermatolgist and they do laser which is great b/c it will take the redness out. I work in pediatric and I cant tell you how many children have used them and how happy the parents are with their results. before surgery with Waner my gf/s nephew had his lasered there with great results but just to take the color out- he still needed surgery.
go with Waner for surgery - dont waste your time and copays. I promise you, you will be happy. If my DD had one this is who I would use.
