herniated disk in my back but
There is nothing they can do for it since I am pregnant. I have been sent to a million and one doctors some who wouldn't even look at me and finally i went to a neurologist as per my ob referral and I got an MRI but they will not do anything for me until after the baby. SO basically i just have to suck it up. I have been out of work for 5 weeks so I am just going back to work and have to be in pain. I am doing physical therapy and accupuncture. Hopefully the pain will subside some. Iam 13 weeks so I have a long time for this to bother me. Anyone have this or have any suggestions i would appreciate it!

Re: herniated disk in my back but
Ok, this may sound stupid but hear me out.
DH has 2 herniated discs and NOTHING helped. A coworker of his lent him one of those devices that allow you to hang upside down. It alleviates all the pressure standing up puts on your spine and it REALLY helped DH. I just thought I would let you know since there is not much you can do being pregnant. I hope you feel better soon!

Re: herniated disk in my back but
That really stinks. I had the same problem but thought it was sciatica. Sorry to say mine ended in surgery a couple of months ago. Will they give you anything pregnancy safe for the pain?

Re: herniated disk in my back but
Oh Amy just saw this - I am glad you finally got someone who would look at you, sorry the news wasn't better.
I assume they gave you a long list of exercises to help you out - stretching that area relieves some of the pressure. Traction helps too, too bad you can't do it while pg.
If you want to know any of those exercises let me know - they do relieve a lot of the pressure.

Re: herniated disk in my back but
I have been there unfortunately. I had back surgery 1 1/2 years ago and was worried about what would happen when I became pregnant. Well, that dreaded knifing sciatic pain, it's back as of this week. Every day I am wondering how long it's going to be before I can't drive or sit anymore. I'm 20 weeks tomorrow.
If you really like your acupuncturist and feel they are helping, I would love the info....I'm here if you want to vent. Feel better.

Re: herniated disk in my back but
Have you thought about going to a chiropractor? They can help relieve the pressure from you disk, and help with normal PG back problems too!

Re: herniated disk in my back but
OMG you poor thing! I had surgery on my lower back twice for a blown disk so I can empathize with the pain you must be feeling. Can you go to physical therapy? I don't know where you live but there is a PT near me (Smithtown) who specializes in working with pregnant women so FM me if you need the info. Feel better!

Re: herniated disk in my back but
I have two old herniations that always act up, especially while pregnant. Remember to bring mri report with you to the hospital...its important for them t o know where the herniation is in case you need an epidural or spinal. Have your ob fax a copy to the hospital in advance as well. Feel better.

Re: herniated disk in my back but
I had this, although not while PG. I'm sorry this happened! I go to a chiropractor to relieve some of the pressure and do a lot of stretching.
As the above poster said, keep the mri and bring it to the hospital with you. I'd also make sure your Dr. knows and has a note in your chart.
Hope it feels better soon!
