Hershey Park
We are taking my niece in August - I am sure there is plenty of places around there to eat but can anyone recommend a place that isnt a chain restaurant like AppleBees

Red Robin... It is a chain, but not in the NY area. The food is GREAT... much better than a Friday's or Chili's. The decor is great too! She'll love it. I went to college near Hershey and we always went there for food and drinks.
Check it out.
If you want to dine a little more upscale, the hershey Hotel has an amazing restaurant. you could also take a drive into Lancaster and do one of the Amish family-style food places.. YUMMY!
also, in a town called Elixabethtown (it's about a 15 minute drive from Hershey) just go straight down 743 South and you'll hit it...there's lots of places. that's where i went to college, so the Main street is full of places. there is a Hoss's which is really good--- like a sizzler, great steaks and salad bar, ice-cream parlor, pizza joints, etc.
