Hey creative "cake" moms....

Think I can make this?

External Image

I know the white is just rolled fondant which I am about to start practicing.

The blue could probably just be jello.

People are probably gum paste which I have nooo experience with but am totally willing to try.

What do you think the sign is made out of?

And, do you think the "tile" is also fondant?

I have no experience with any of this stuff, but I think you are right - that it's all fondant.

Re: Hey creative "cake" moms....

I tried fondant and failed, but if you are good at it, I am sure it's doable. It does not look too detailed, more time consuming for all the components.

They sell a shimmer that you can paint onto fondant and I think that would work for the tiles. Might even work for the water too, rather than trying to put jello on your cake.

Re: Hey creative "cake" moms....

I think the pool is royal icing not jello. The sign looks like it is made of sugar with royal icing for the writing. The people look like gum paste. The cake looks like fondant.

You can totally make that!

The "water" could be piping gel all roughed up....if the fondant underneath it is blue, you could probably put it on clear to pick up the color underneath it.

I think the people are fondant also....easier to work with than gumpaste...gumpaste dries out too quickly and the color fades...it's annoying.

I think everything is fondant.

It's SUPER cute! Where did you find that?

Re: Hey creative "cake" moms....

i have no personal experience but have been obsessed with the cake shows on the cooking channel. Ace of Cakes and the challenge. What I seen on there It looks like the water is what they were calling pipping hot sugar.. (sugar melted and gives a crystal look) but it could be jello too.. no clue. The rest like tiles and sign look like fondant to me.

Im going to attempt to make my dds baptism cake.. I was inspired by EmmaNicks minnie mouse cake. Im soo excitted to try.

All kidding aside, you can totally make that and it's really cute. Gum paste isn't hard to work with, it's like fondant but hardens quicker I think.

It would be earlier in June....not sure how much help that would be!

The fondant is super easy to work with ...I made some characters a little while ago and was shocked at how easy it is. And for that cake, it's pretty much flesh colored balls (Chat Icon ) for heads and little arms. You can totally do it.
I'm going to look closer at the water...I do think it's clear piping gel though.

Michaels and AC Moore both sell it.
It is cheaper to make your own....but I find the pre-made one easier to work with.

Re: Hey creative "cake" moms....

I saw a similar cake in good housekeeping. The tile was chicklets and instead of people they had teddy grams in bathing suits made out of icing... It was really cute I am trying to post a picture but not sure if it is going to work

Re: Hey creative "cake" moms....

Great Cake!! I think that you could do it. I think the previous posters are correct that the water is most likely royal icing, or piping gel.

The sign is fondant with the wording written / painted on with icing.

Good Luck!
