Hey fellow teachers--I need your opinions, please

This is a x-post from Parenting. It's breastfeeding related, but I'm looking for opinions from teachers whether they have children or not. I'm actually thinking that what my admins are trying to do is illegal!!!

Unless I'm not reading your post correctly, EVERY teacher in your building gets a 35 minute prep and a 20 minute lunch. That's more time than you would need to pump, so how is your AP trying to take time away from you? I don't see why you couldn't use the time as you see fit. You could use 20 minutes of the 35 minute prep to pump, then the other 15 to eat. You can also pump during your 20 minute lunch. I know 15 minutes isn't a lot to eat, but it's something. How can she tell you what you can and cannot do with your time?
BTW, her response to you was unprofessional and totally out of line. As a pregnant momma myself, I would be horrified if admin said that to me. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I responded on Parenting also - but I would just go back and tell your AP you want the "regular" schedule - 35 minute prep and 20 minute lunch. How you spend that time is up to you!!

That's nuts! There was a teacher in my building who pumped a few times a day when she came back to work. That's insane!

At a public school in NC. Ohhhhhh don't even get me started, I had no idea what I was getting into when we moved here.

I'm actually very lucky I get a lunch. The principal before this one didn't believe in duty-free lunch, and the teacher actually had to eat with their class in the lunchroom every day. We still have to occasionally, on days that we're short on TAs or on extended planning days.

And believe it or not, we actually get 25 minutes for lunch (big whoop), but we're expected to show up 5 minutes before the end of lunch to get our kids lined up. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
