Hi! First post on Parenting and I need HELP (EBF related with PAIN)
Hi everyone! I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Ilana on Monday and I have a question.
I am EBF (or at least trying really hard to - I had NO IDEA how much dedication and work it would be). Right now, it is Thursday and I think my milk is starting to come in. I just fed Ilana and it went pretty well, she fed for awhile. But I am really really really swollen and in a lot of pain. I am going to take a hot cloth and massage the areas, but what else can I do??? Is this normal???? I hope nothing is wrong.
TIA

First CONGRATULATIONS!!!! To answer your Q , yes it's normal , when your milk first comes in it hurts a little(or should I say a lot) I remember the feeling You can go in the shower and let hot water run down on your chest for a bit , massage while in the shower or after you get out and try to feed the baby or pump.
Good Luck
P.S. FM me if you have any questions

ITA - but only pump enough (manually or with a pump) to relieve the engorgement, or else you are telling your body to make more milk and the engorgement will get worse

Thanks. Wow. I never knew this. Of all the things I researched and people I spoke to, I never knew this.
Does the pain get better with time? Right now I feel like I can't move my arms!

Good advice from everyone. I choose to pump and increased my milk supply so I had enough to freeze. That shower is a godsend though.
Congratulations and welcome to a whole new chapter of your life!

Yes it is normal. It will probably last for a couple of days as your supply adjusts. You can also try taking a hot shower & letting the water run on your boobs. That was the only way I found to get some relief.

Congratulations!!
The best way to relieve engorgement is having DD nurse. Although you can try to pump just to take the edge off.
Within a few weeks your body will naturally even out your supply.
