Hi! I am new here.

Hi everyone. It feels so good to finally find somewhere where people are going through the same things as myself. I don't really understand all the abbreviations you all use so please bear with me and if someone would want to explain those to me that would be awesome.
Anyways, I'll give you all a little background. I am 24 years old, almost 25. My husband and I have been married for almost 4 years. We have no kids. Chat Icon
We have been trying forever and it's just not happening. Although, I am hoping this is our year. We are both big time smokers and are quiting. Really tough but totally worth it. So I am hoping that will solve the problems. For about the last 7 years my menstrual cycle has been screwy, which was when I started smoking.
Well, today has been a bad day. I try to stay positive but today that just didn't work out. I have been really depressed about this for a while. And nobody around me understands what I am going through. They can all pop kids out like no other. To make it worse my cousin/best friend just had a perfect baby boy on New Year's day and I'm a little jealous. And I've spent the last nine months listening to her complain about how horrible pregnancy is. I'm like shut up I would do anything to have morning sickness, or feel a baby kick me really hard in the ribs, or even labor pains.
I'm sorry I'm going on and on. I just really needed to vent and to some people who can sympathize with what I'm going through.
That's enough for now though Chat Icon
PSSSSSTTTT...any tips you all can give me on trying to conceive. I want to try everything possible before heading to a specialist and spending tons of money!!! Thanks.

Hi amanda.. welcome to the boards..
I think most of us understand your frustration.
Although this is my first month trying.. I tried for a long time with my 2nd and I remember being very depressed about it.
Good job on cutting out the smoking, that should help your chances..
Have you gone to the doctor and spoke about this? Maybe there is a reason why you havent been able to conceive..
After several years of trying I would definitly turn to a doctor for some help.
Hope your stay here is short!
Lots of baby dust to you!!

Re: Hi! I am new here.

welcome. and i wish you baby dust....I think it is important to know when you ovulate. Have you tried charting or used any ovulation predictor kits?

Good luck.

I definitely would start with a RE and get thorough hormone testing done. Good luck with the smoking,...that definitely will help matters if you quit.

You can also, start temping if you haven't already but, signing up with www.fertilityfriend.com. Your temps on the chart, may display some possibilities of why you are having irregular cycles.

Re: Hi! I am new here.

Thank you ladies for all your well wishes. The smoking thing isn't going as well as I thought. It is soooo frustrating. But I know it's only a matter of time before I am completely done. As far as charting my temp I haven't done that yet. I really need to start. Can you use a regular thermometer or do you have to get a special one????? Thanks for all your help!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Hi! I am new here.

You need a basal body thermometer. If you take a look at www.fertilityfriend.com they are a great site/resource for temping. As well as buying the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility, Toni Weschler.

I definitely think seeing a doctor asap for hormonal testing is also a great idea.

Re: Hi! I am new here.

hi amanda,

im not a smoker, but my sister-in-law tried to quit smoking and it was very hard for her, she finally stopped when she went to a few sessions of acupuncture. Acupuncture could help in many areas, also ttc.

good luck.
