Congrats! Just tell them what you told us that you just got a positive results on a pregnancy test. They will ask you when the first day of your last monthly period was.

Don't be surprised if they don't have you come in right away. Unless you are due for an annual sooner, most won't have you come in until you are 8 weeks.

The first appt they will take blood (or send you out for bloodwork), do a urine sample to confirm the pregnancy, and usually do an internal sonogram. If they have you come in earlier than 8 weeks, they may not do the sono. It depends on your doctor. I had one at 6 weeks because we were going on vacation and would be away at 8 weeks.

Okay great. A friend just told me to wait the three weeks after the missed period, so I gather this is correct then?

Wow thank you ladies for responding straight away! I'm sitting here quite a bit nerved!

Yes make an appt with your doctor just tell them you got a positive on a home pregnancy test. They may make you wait a bit to come in. I had to wait until I was 8 weeks it was torture.

I just had my first appt on Wed. We filled out some paperwork. I had to pee in a cup. They drew 5/6 tubes of blood. We went over what you should do, and what to avoid. We talked about medical history. Then an exam just like your annual. Breast exam, pap, internal to feel the size of the uterus. They don't do the ultrasound at the office so they gave me paperwork to make an appt. My first appt in next wed. Again the waiting is tough. Oh, and they went over some other tests I could elect to have such as cystic fibrosis which is just done from the blood they collected. And an NT scan for down syndrome and other issues which is done around 12 weeks with a blood test/ultrasound. I elected to have it I am only 25 and they offer it to everyone regardless of age.

Good luck and Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon congrats!!! I know what a struggle it has been for you. I am so happy to see you over here.

Re: Hi Ladies, Had my BFP yesterday....and now...

Call the OB. You probably won't have your first appointment until 7-8 weeks. They usually do a sono to confirm a heartbeat. Meanwhile, some OBs (mine did) will have you come in to do a Beta/HcG blood test to confirm pregnancy and again in two days to make sure the numbers are doubling. Meanwhile, start taking prenatals. Other than that, I wouldn't do anything special.

Welcome! And you can ask ALMOST anything. Don't ask if I can eat your Halloween candy. I have enough here in my house.

Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Hi Ladies, Had my BFP yesterday....and now...

def call your doctor asap and just tell him/her that u are pregnant and they will probably schedule your first appointment when u are 8 weeks. My ob's office called in a prescription for prenatals also when I called. If you are due for an annual exam they will do that at your first appointment, along with an internal sonogram, maybe blood work, and probably just talk with u for a few minutes about foods and things to stay away from
