Hi mommies,need help Re:camera

Soon to be mom and I already own a digital camera,8mp...new and love it.

My DH would kill me if he knew this but I was considering investing on another one for the baby esp after seeing such beautiful pics of your DS/DD.
Im a photo freak..love taking them and I understand that the bulkier cameras do a better job.

Even if I find something on ebay that wont cost me as much new.

Any recommendations?

Re: Hi mommies,need help Re:camera

I have my tiny Sony Cybershot with 8 mp and I see all the wonderful shots that other moms take with those expensive cameras. I think to myself...with all the damn digital cameras I've bought in the past...I could have had one of those fancy SLR cameras.Chat Icon
I think Barb is the best person to answer that question.

But the Rebel sounds familiar...Chat Icon

Re: Hi mommies,need help Re:camera

Ok - here is my 2 cents........

It honestly doesn't matter what camera you have - you have to know how to take a picture.

After taking a photo class and seeing what has been done with a good old 35mm film camera I quickly learned that you could have the fanciest camera on earth and still get lousy pictures.

I have the Nikond80 and love it BUT it honestly takes as good a pic as my older digital camera. I just like the extra features I get with it - hence the extra bucks for it.

If you are going to invest in anything treat yourself to a local photo class. You'll learn a lot and I've definitely noticed that I'm taking better pictures just b/c now I know how and understand lighting and other concepts.

Hope I helped!!!!

I def think the camera makes the difference. I have the Nikon D40 and love it. The quality picture is soo much better then my Kodak.

I think taking a class is also helpful but I do believe a better camera makes a difference.

The Nikon D40 is so easy to use too. I highly recommend it.

I agree that the Nikons & Canons are the way to go - sticking to a digital SLR.

As far as a camera is concerned...I have a Nikon D70 (D50 is fine).

When I use someone else's point & shoot camera, I think it comes out crappy. If I hand someone my camera to take a photo, well I can tell that they took it versus me (someone who doesn't take as many photos as me). If I explain a little bit more about why I take a photo a certain way, I can't tell the difference between theirs & mine.

I got a Nikon D50 last year. before that I had Conons. Either is a very good camera. But the ones before my D50 were not SLR's and I think it makes a huge difference, especially with a child.

Deb...this is the camera that I have too!!
I always keep the macro option on (it's the picture of the flower on the menu screen) and I turn the illumination light and the red eye light off. You can take a faster picture that way. Plus I hold down the button to take a pic halfway until that circle in the center tuns green and beeps. That way you know the picture is focused.
Believe me...if I had the money, I would be getting one of those SLR cameras too.Chat Icon

I don't necessarily agree with that, I had a point and shoot canon and it took OK pictures, but the shutter speed was slow and pictures came out blurry. I don't know anything at all about photography, but I do know that with the Digital EOS, I can just use it on automatic and shoot away and I get fantastic pictures, I capture the moment and they are crystal clear! I think if you have a good camera, you do get better pictures!! I think digital SLR's are amazing...idiotproof
