High Blood Pressure
At my last 2 appointments, the nurse told me my blood pressure was slightly elevated. I don't think I ever had high blood pressure before pregnancy. I'm sure part of the reason it's high is b/c I get nervous at each appointment. Has anyone has this during the first trimester? I'm slightly worried that it will get more elevated in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Other than medication, is there anything I can do to help lower blood pressure? TIA.

Re: High Blood Pressure
I developed toxemia in my 2nd trimester and never was put on medication.
I rested a lot, drank a lot of water, and ate really healthy. It helped mantain it. Almost 3 months before I delivered I was put on bedrest though for precaution.

Re: High Blood Pressure
This is what I am worried about too......
I never had a problem until I went on BCP's then my blood pressure went up and they told me I had to go off them.
Wouldn't being pregnat have the same affect??
What have they said about it to you?? Are they thinking of putting you on meds, if it doesn't come down on it's own??

Re: High Blood Pressure
I have the same thing. My BP is ALWAYS on the lower side of normal 110 or 108/70. In pregnancy it has been 132/80 both times I have had it taken oddly. My DR is just keeping an eye on it. I asked Sunflowerjess about this since she has been dealing with high BP recently and she said she never had it in early pregnancy. I read in one of my books that 20% of people that have high BP in the 1st tri develop pre-eclampsia which isn't that high.

They haven't said anything about it to me yet. The first time I had it taken, I asked if being nervous could make it higher and the nurse said "yes." I plan to ask my OB/GYN about it at my next appointment.

Today it was 13?/7? I asked the nurse if that was bad and she just said it was slightly elevated. I've never been told that I have high or even slightly elevated blood pressure before pregnancy. Hopefully, neither one of us will develop pre-eclampsia.

My OB told me that the bottom number is the one to really worry about. My bottom number was about 90-100 at times.

Re: High Blood Pressure
I only had very high blood pressure in my 3rd trimester with my 1st pregnancy, so with my 2nd pregnancy I had to buy a blood pressure kit to use everyday just so I monitor it.
I would just watch your salt intake and drink lots of water! Try to relax too, and rest a lot. I would buy a BP kit at CVS just so you know what your BP is everyday, it will also put your mind at ease.
