high blood pressure due to pre e post delivery
Hi all I had my twins Wednesday and will do an official intro later! Just a quick question, if your bp remained high after your delivery did you need meds or did it go away on its own? If it went away on its own how long did it take? Mine has been about 140/90 and the doc said it will go away on its own but I sort of expected him to give me meds. Tia

high blood pressure due to pre e post delivery
I never had pre e but my bp was high for about a month after birth. They had me in to check it once a week. As long as the bottom stayed under 100 they wouldn't give me meds.
And a big congrats!

Re: high blood pressure due to pre e post delivery
I didn't have high no before but did like 2-3 days after they were born. They kept retaking it because it hadn't been high before. They said it could have been pre e but were r sure. I didn't need meds. It just normalized on its own.

Re: high blood pressure due to pre e post delivery
I didn't have pre-e but my bp went high 2-3 days post delivery. It was really high and they put me on 2 meds. After about 2 weeks I was only on 1 med and then another 4 weeks after that it was back to normal.
I was still able to bf while on them too.

Re: high blood pressure due to pre e post delivery
I was induced with DS#1 due to high BP and it was still a bit high while in the hospital but (I think 130/80 or 90?) and was back to normal (although never as good as it was) by my 6 week follow up.

No pre-e, but EXTREMELY high BP post delivery. Pretty much immediately. Took a year to go away with meds.

i had pre-e and my BP stay elevated for about 2 days after delivery (which was crazy considering i had practically no blood after my cs ). i was on magnesium for 2 days and had to wait til i had several hours of normal readings before they would take me off and let me see the baby in the NICU . i was put on labetalol for 6 weeks post partum and did not have a problem after that. good luck and CONGRATS!! high blood pressure due to pre e post delivery
I was induced at 39 weeks bc of pregnancy induced hypertension but I did not have pre e. My BP was still high for a few months post delivery and I ended up being prescribed two different BP meds (Labetalol and Procardia) and Winthrop had a nurse come to my home every day to monitor me until it finally went back to normal.

Re: high blood pressure due to pre e post delivery
I had to be on meds.....BP so high that I actually developed carpal tunnel in BOTH wrists (fun when I was trying to take care of twins, recovered from c-section, etc!). Also had POUNDING headaches from it. Took about 2 months to go away....

Re: high blood pressure due to pre e post delivery
I had HELLP syndrome with my first and my bp stayed really high for about 2 weeks post partum. I was put on labetolol and hydralizine aside from the motoprolol I was already on. My BP was REALLY high though.
I had high bp after my second but no Pre-e but it took the same time to come down.
At 2 weeks it normalized and I stopped meds after a month.
For me, when my blood volume finally goes down so does my bp. They hold bleed my like in the 1800s lol!
Feel better

Re: high blood pressure due to pre e post delivery
My BP is still high and I delivered 9 months ago! I am on labetalol and will see where I am come January when I see my cardiologist again.
Even with meds, my lower number still hovers at 85+, so my doc isn't weaning me just yet.

Re: high blood pressure due to pre e post delivery
I never got pre e however, my bp was very high for both pregnancies and was on meds throughout me pregnancy and about 3 months afterwards for #1, just had #2 two weeks ago and they wouldn't discharge me fromt the hospital for 5 days because it was too high. I am now on triple my dose of meds. I have to check my bp 3 x's a day and see my nephrologist in a week. As long as my #'s don't go above 140/90, im ok.

Re: high blood pressure due to pre e post delivery
I had pre-e and that's y DS was 9 weeks early. THey started me on BP meds in the hospital. I had to stay on them after I was released, but I would check my BP and if it wasn't high I didn't take the BP med. I weaned myself off the meds (with my doctors help of course) within 2 weeks PP. MY blood pressure was back to normal within 2 weeks. The morning I delivered DS it was 200/100 so I was pretty high and everything returned to normal fairly quickly.

Re: high blood pressure due to pre e post delivery
With my last pregnancy it took almost 6 months for it to regulate itself and get back to normal. No meds were needed for me.
What I was told is that if I was 160/100 either number we would discuss meds. Mine was consistently right below atleast one of the numbers for almost 6 months.
They say usually it can take up to 6 weeks for it to regulate, sometimes longer.
