High End Make-Up Poll w/ follow up Q
Department store vs. Drugstore- which do you prefer?
Also, share your great bargain products if you know of any! And the not-worth-the money ones.

I use BE for almost everything except mascara (Clinique), lip gloss (Estee Lauder) and eyeliner (MAC).
I have some drug store brand stuff as well like Maybeline lipgloss & Ulta eye shadows. great products! especially for the price.

Re: High End Make-Up Poll w/ follow up Q
To answer my own question- I find that Stila eyeshadows are worth the money, but the lip glazes aren't, IMO. I also have yet to find a good high-end mascara that's worth the $$- I have tried Clinique, Stila and Bourjois, which irritated my eyes a lot.
I like Revlon cream blush and lip gloss. That's about it for drugstore brands.

a little trick I picked up... when you remove the brush from the tube, wipe it off with a tissue and that will prevent clumping.

Depends on the product.
I don't limit myself to a specific brand or store.
My favorite drugstore/bargain products: Neutrogena Mineral Sheers
Maybelline Great Lash (both regular and Waterproof)
Cover Girl Professional Clear Mascara (for the brows)
Revlon and Physicians Formula have great products!

For foundation/concealer/powder, department store is best, especially for finding the right shade and totally worth the $$$.
For color that lasts, you're better off spending more on eye shadow and blush.
I could go either way on lip color.
And though I don't frequently wear mascara, the only one I ever use is great lash by mabelline.

Re: High End Make-Up Poll w/ follow up Q
Here's my opinion. It depends on your application and the brushes you use. I will use drugstore brands over department store brands. Maybelline mascara over Estee Lauder, L'oreal lipstick over Clinique, etc. I buy Wet n Wild for Halloween or for the glittery trendy stuff. I love my Brucci nailpolish. Dries super fast and is dirt cheap. To me, Essie chips just as fast and is 5 times as expensive. I looooooove my WetnWild lip liner number 666 (yes, I know) but it is the BEST friggin lip liner ever. I will buy 4 at a time because I wear it everyday. I change a lip color just by changing the liner and gloss I use. NYC lipliners are also great, and a $1 to boot. Milani makes fantastic bright eyeshadows and they are $3 each. but as I said, if you have good expensive brushes, you can use pretty much anything!!!
ETA: when it ccomes to foundation, that is the area that is where I'd spend the money because like Snozberry said, you get a better chance of having the right shade.

Re: High End Make-Up Poll w/ follow up Q
The only items I really buy at the drug store are:
Mascara - I have really long lashes and have a lot of $$ on mascara and the cheap stuff works just as good on me.
Face Wash: I have been using Cetaphil for like 10 years.
Lipgloss: Once and awhile I will get one from Revlon. I really like them.
Everything else I buy from Dept stores. My favorites are Stila, Chanel, Laura Mercier, Trish McEvoy, MAC and Dior.

Re: High End Make-Up Poll w/ follow up Q
I use Clinique for 95% of my makeup. Once in awhile I will use a MAC or Estee Lauder or Chanel-(I like Chanel lipstick) but for skin products, eye liner, mascara, bronzer...I use Clinique

I actually use what I buy at a department store. But what I buy at a drugstore often turns out to be a waste of money. I buy makeup sponges at the drugstore, though.

I remember hearing somewhere that all mascaras are pretty much the same formula, it's just the packaging that's different.

For me, certain things are definitely worth the extra money. Foundation and bronzer - I only use Clinique. Lipstick is normally just Covergirl from the drug store. Eyeshadow - I can go either way.

Re: High End Make-Up Poll w/ follow up Q
certain makeup items like foundation, primer, eyeshadow and lipstick& lip liner I buy dept store brands...chanel, smashbox, dior etc...
mascara i love lash architect from max factor i think? and i buy the cheapest drugstore eyeliner i can find, in my mind i can somehow rationalize spending $60 for 4 eyeshadows from chanel, yet would NEVER spend more than $5 on eyeliner, lol and i love physicians formula bronzer.

I have always used the mascara in the "pink and green tube" then I got a free trial size mascara from Lancome and I was hooked I think there is a diff.

I used to think the same thing until I tried the Clinique Cream Shapers- I will never use anything else!
