High-Hats?

Our new house has really no ceiling lighting. How expensive and difficult is it to get high-hats installed?

Re: High-Hats?

Dh is an electrician and we have the same problem in our living room. I asked him how hard would it be to put them in and he said not hard BUT that's because our second floor is gutted and he can access the living room ceiling from above. I guess it depends on what is above the ceilings you want high-hats in and if it's possible to run the necessary wiring without ripping out most of the ceiling. HTH!

Then it might not be too hard. You have an attic space above right? Should be able to crawl up there and run the wires. My DH did it himself in a room where its only 1 story and we had a small attic space above it.

I had them done in the bathroom and they were 150 a piece...they're generally 100-150 a piece.

Re: High-Hats?

I have a ranch, we have high hats, and I HATE them. They only illuminate directly below them, so it is always dark in my lr. We use 2 floor lamps to make up for the lack of light. I would jsut get a good central ceiling light or use lamps.

Re: High-Hats?

We just installed high hats in our kitchen. Rob is an electrician so he did it for us. He said the wiring is easy but we did have to take down the ceiling and really mark very carefully were the lights were going to go (centered in front of cabinets that were not yet there, etc..). It took him less than a day to get them up there .. but it was weeks before he got the new ceiling up and spackled!
