Highlight your hair?
Hi girls,
How does everyone feel about getting their hair highlighted? I'm 13 weeks this coming weekend and am over due for my highlights, but am debating if I should just suck it up and just not have it done because it may be dangerous? DH doesn't want me to but I've read contradicting things...
Did anyone highlight their hair?

Re: Highlight your hair?
i am pretty sure that highlighting is safer b/c it doesn't touch your scalp... i would totally get it done if i could afford to! but ask your dr to see what they say.

Re: Highlight your hair?
I highlighted my hair after I was 12 weeks.. my hairdresser will no long put me under the dryer so to avoid the stuff heating up and dripping onto my scalp.
I asked my Dr and she said it was fine.

Re: Highlight your hair?
I'm waiting it out.... To me, it's not worth the risk.
On the sheet my OB gave me with commonly asked questions it specifically says no hair coloring during pregnancy, becuase there have been no studies indicating it is safe to do....
besides, every company uses different chemicals, so each brand would have to be studied....

Re: Highlight your hair?
highlighting does not touch your scalp; as opposed to hair dying, which is applied directly to your scalp
everyone has said its fine

Re: Highlight your hair?
But when you highlight don't they put the toner all over to rinse out the highlight and even out the color? That would be my concern.

Re: Highlight your hair?
my doc said no dying but highlights were fine bc they didnt touch the scalp....she also said that if possible have it done at home not in the salon so ur not breathing in all the chemicals while ur getting urs done.....so i called my hair colorist and shes coming to my house and im gonna make sure to remind her over and over again to be extra careful not to touch my scalp which i feel much better about

Re: Highlight your hair?
My OB said highlighting is completely safe as it does not touch your scalp. She just advised me to hold off until my second trimester which is what I did.
Just this past weekend was the second time I highlighted my hair since I've been pg.

Re: Highlight your hair?
Maximus Salon does "vegetable hair dying" which does not include chemicals.... maybe call them & see if it is safe for pregnant women.

Hair coloring is different than highlighting though. Highlights never touch the scalp. My HD puts clear "foil" like strips then just washes out, never touches my scalp.
