I like Merrells. Sturdy, waterproof options, light, comfortable and good ankle support.
But they aren't cute. I feel like frankenstein in them.

Do you need them to be good (ankle support, breathable liners, waterproof, etc.) or do you need them to be cute? Because they're pretty much mutually exclusive. 
I'm a huge fan of Asolo and Vasque.

I'm not a hiker at all so this will be my first time....
I defintely will need ankle support as this area can be steep and rocky
