Hiring an Interior Designer

How do you pick one that has the style you are going for and can you give me an idea of their prices/fees?

Re: Hiring an Interior Designer

We had interviewed a few, some were very expensive and some were just not our taste based on their portfolio

Some charged a flat rate or had minimum hours and some charged hourly with no minimum.

There is no set fee, every interior designer has their own way of charging.
you just have to find what your comfortable with. Also some designers want to use their own furniture while others have trade accounts with most big vendors that offers you a discount.

What worked for us, was someone young with fresh ideas, she also worked with both of us, and always came up with multiple options so me and DH could choose.

Her ideas have been great, she is easy to work with, and she charged us by the hour, with no minimum.
She has trade accounts with many vendors and gets us some nice discounts
She also did all the paint, lighting, bath fixtures, granite selections, tile selections, etc. She is also available to work on one room if thats what you need.
We just had an entire house to do.

I have to say, i see alot of girls on here that post pictures of their homes and they are just gorgeous, they could be interior designers themselves.
Me and my DH are missing that creative gene, and we needed the help of someone, but i would say most women have a knack for decorating. i defin don't

I totally agree with Nicole....I just don't have the Vision. I know what I like and don't like, but need to see it to know.
i will definitely need a designer to help decorate.

Nicole I can't wait to see finished pictures.

Us too. We know what we like but have trouble putting it all together.

Our house is so unfinished because we can never make a decision.

I definitely need help.

Re: Hiring an Interior Designer

I agree with all the PP said. The interior designer I use is also young and fun and she herself is a bit funky. I am totally not but she gets that and is able to adapt to your specific tastes well. What was even better was that she understood what I was looking for when I really didn't know how to express it.

She works for herself (and is unbiased as to what vendors to use) and she is fantastic. If you want her info, feel free to FM me.
