hmmmm what to do.
the little boy next door is making his communion. The invited us over for the party. Its tomorrow. I was going to buy a savings bond. But I know you need a social. I don't know their social. And I don't want to put mine down (if its family I would but not just neighbors)
what can I do?

Could you call the mom of the child and explain that you want to give a bond? Most parents would give the SSN for that reason, or at least my friends have given it to me, but then I shread the number after I purchased the bond.

You can use your own ss # to purchase the bond.

I know I can. I just don't want my social showing up anywhere that they can get it.

Re: hmmmm what to do.
I'd tell them you'd like to give a bond, and ask for the #. If they aren't comfortable, then a check.

the only person that has the s.s. is the bank. the receiver of the bond won't know it

My DH's friends were doing this for her christening...I honestly did not feel comfortable giving them her social security # for it. Not with today's identity theft issues... A friend of the family gave us a bond as well, and never asked us for a social...I assume they used there own.
