holiday/end of year parties

Does your school place a strong emphasis that all teachers and staff must go to these things??

I didn't go to the holiday party because it was held 40 mins from the school and I live 40 mins from the school in the OPPOSITE direction! So it would have been inconvenient. Also, I am having a rough time with the social aspect in my school because there are so many cliques. It's like HS basically Chat Icon

I really don't want to go to the end of the year party...... but I may have to go out of obligation. I am curious what this situation is like for everyone else!

Sort of. I have been skipping the holiday party. Usually it is about $45 and in December, I can't swing it. I'm honest and I tell people who ask that answer. Hey, nobody can tell me how to spend my money.

But the end of year one is one I don't skip. It's a nice way to end the year. Although ours is always so early! Chat Icon

the staff at my school acts like they are in high school too - the "cool" cliques won't go to the holiday or end of year party - and sadly i am not kidding.

i usually go if i have nothing else going on and if i have a couple friends going. i think it's healthy to have some social interaction with your coworkers. makes working with them more pleasant.
