Holiday Gifts - Esp Winter Mommies
Anyone else freaking at all about the baby coming and wanting to do a quiet holiday? DH and I are always generous with each other- him esp with me - but between buying a house this summer, unexpected major vet bills in fall and the baby coming in Jan - I feel like I want to do a very quiet holiday - with everyone! DH and I did not exchange gifts for our birthdays or five year anniversary - although we did go out to dinner on the occasions - it makes me a little sad to have a low-key time - but I can't imagine spending all the money we do esp since I love doing all eight nights of Chanukah. We're going to get a new camera for the baby and we need a new cordless phone system - but besides that, I'm going to be a Scrooge and suggest very very cheap trinket gifts. Anyone else feeling like this?

Re: Holiday Gifts - Esp Winter Mommies
I am due February 8 and feel the same way. Plus, we are buying a house and will be closing right around the time is due!
DH's birthday is a few days before Christmas and we decided to keep his birthday gift and Christmas gifts for both us really small!!! I think we are going to buy a new camera but are going to set a very small limit for gifts.
For our extended family, we are keeping the gifts for our nieces and nephews smaller than normal this year. But 3 of them are under 2 and I seriously see no need to spend a fortune. I am going to do my best to shop sales for the rest of the family.
I don't think it's being Scrooge - it's just our reality this year!

Re: Holiday Gifts - Esp Winter Mommies
we're not going crazy with gifts this year either.
normally we fly back to NY for Christmas - which is about $1200 just for that. and then we buy gifts for everyone! it gets so expensive.
obviously this year we won't be doing any flying!
instead, we're planning on sending gift baskets for each household of people (like one for each of our parents, one for each sibling/family, one for aunts/uncles, etc).

Re: Holiday Gifts - Esp Winter Mommies
I was due Jan 15 last year, and DC were born on Dec. 30. We did not give any gifts last year, and everyone understood.
