Holiday gifts for teachers
I'm starting to work on our Christmas budget and I was just wondering what most people give to public school teachers. Money, gift card, physical gift? The class moms already collected a few dollars from each family for a gift, but I assume people give in addition to that.

Re: Holiday gifts for teachers
I have mostly only contributed to the class gift (which ends up being cash or a GC). I think once I gave a large Yankee Candle jar. Our school has a limit that the class parent can ask for but I always give more. The rule does not say you can't give more!

I chip in for the class gift and then buy something on my own. I have already bought a Vera Bradley bag for his teacher this year (it was on sale )

Re: Holiday gifts for teachers
Last year I gave the teacher and assistant each a christmas candle. This year I was going to do something different. not sure what though. Maybe spend 10 extra dollars on each.

I usually bake cookies and give each teacher a large tin... then I'll probably give them each $10 dunkin gift cards... or maybe a travel mug w/ a pound of coffee & put it in a gift basket?
then maybe say- thank you for all you do, during vacation I hope you have a relaxing coffee break & think of us!

I did the same! Chipped in for the class gift. And then got each teacher a Vera zip around wallet that was on sale for $15 (normally $38).
Zip Around Wallet (some colors on sale now for $20)

Re: Holiday gifts for teachers
Just a PSA, I was in BJs today and they have 4 Christmassy/winter looking mugs individually wrapped with hot cocoa and a piece of Ghiardelli chocolate for $20. It's packaged together, but each much and the stuff in it is individually wrapped. For that price, I bought enough to give all of her teachers and I'll attach a small gift card to her classroom teachers. Thought it was a great deal and I'd pass it on!

I give $25 GC and a small gift to open as well. This goes for teachers, assistants and dance teacher. I used to do more but it gets out of hand.

Re: Holiday gifts for teachers
I usually do a gift card for Starbucks, or a candle, but I would like to do something different this year (in addition to the class gift). Maybe a bottle of wine, or I was even thinking of a gift card to Massage Envy or something like that, but then it gets pricey! I only have the Kindergarten teacher, dance teacher, and this year - bus driver! Genevieve is always forgetting stuff, and she is very helpful, so she will probably get something good! She saved me a lot of money in lost sweaters, jackets, bags, etc.

While I think this is probably the most thoughtful gift you can give, I just wanted to say that most teachers I know will not eat homemade things if they don't know the family well. Just an FYI. I hope I don't come across as mean spirited.
