Holiday Self-Control

Hi All,
Does anyone have any tips on sticking to a diet/healthy eating on a holiday? I've been really watching what I eat lately, and I know on Easter it will all go downhill. It starts off with a couple of pieces of pepperoni, and fast forward to the end of the evening, I'll have consumed 2,000+ calories Chat Icon . Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Holiday Self-Control

Honestly....I just enjoy myself during the holiday (& my birthday). If I'm eating right & exercising regularly, 1 day won't ruin things. And for me, I don't feel deprived or sad, & it keeps me from falling back into my obsessive days when I wouldnt allow myself to fully enjoy the holidays.

P.S....love your screen name, my FAVORITE candy!!!Chat Icon

Re: Holiday Self-Control

I am 6 days away from my first fitness competition...tomorrow is easter and my birthday is Friday. I will be toting my own foods and even made this "creme brulee" that I can eat!

I often bring a veggie platter or a fruit platter so that I can guarantee that there is SOMETHING for me to feel good about eating. Why not make a healthy recipe to share? Lead from the front! Chat Icon

I always try to do my best even if it is a holiday because I just feel better when eating right. I do agree though that one day is not going to hurt you! For me though, I can't have a cheat day until this contest is over!

I eat the same thing everyone else is having, just less of it. I go by Bethany Frankel's motto "Taste everything, eat nothing"

Honestly, I still get full from doing this bc on a holiday there's usually tons of different food, so I just take one scoop of each, or one piece(you know what I mean Chat Icon ) Good luck!

Thanks for the ideas! I'll try not to obsess about one day, I just get nervous that sometimes a cheat day for me turns into a cheat week lol.

Re: Holiday Self-Control

I just try and only eat the things that you can only get on that holiday. Like I'll pass on potato salad, but eat a deviled egg. My grandma makes these ham things I love, so I have a few of those, but skip the macaroni and cheese. On thanksgiving, I pretty much just eat turkey, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and stuffing, since everything else isn't worth it to me since I can have it whenever I want.

I'm not sure I am making sense, but I guess I just eat the "special" stuff and skip the rest. That way, I don't feel deprived because I had my favorite stuff, but I cut calories by skipping everything else.

Re: Holiday Self-Control

its just one day. you don't have to through everything out the window. don't deprive yourself. have a little piece of everything you want. but the most important thing is don't go crazy
