Holiday Spirit

I always wonder if the reason I don't really care about the holidays is because we don't have kids.

I wonder how other CF folks feel?

Re: Holiday Spirit

Usually, I love the holidays.

This year, it's a 'take it or leave it' vibe that I have.

It's been a crappy second half of this year. I'm TRYING to get into the spirit but at the same time, the first round of holidays after the loss of a family member is always hard.

A very close friend of mine is also going through a rough patch, so that is also affecting my mood.

Most other years, I'm like a friggin' elf. I even interviewed to be an elf a few years back for extra cash...and because I thought it would be fun to wear an elf costume. Chat Icon

But this year...I cried watching the Charlie Brown Christmas special. Chat Icon

It always feels like bad crap either happens during this time of the year or other emotional stuff gets drudged up. 2008 I had bad pneumonia; 2009 I got into a car accident and 2010 had a life threatening condition.

I feel like I'm sitting here waiting for the other shoe to drop, what is going to go wrong this year. Along with how can I adequately numb myself to the 'regular' holiday depression due to lost family members.

I can't remember having an enjoyable holiday season since 1993. If I wasn't tied to work commitments I'd go away from mid Dec to mid Jan to some caribbean island to get away from it.

I'm actually planning on pulling out the Christmas decorations this year. Usually we don't really get into the whole Christmas rigamarole. We had hoped to get away this Christmas but DH has to work.
