Holiday Wishlist for you kids: Poor Taste or Brilliant Idea? Updated with another question!

I am seriously contemplating creating a wishlist on Amazon or Toys R Us for this year's holidays. She has a large extended family and I feel that it is helpful for people to know exactly what to get since the holidays can become stressful. In total, our family has 8 kids for whom we (the aunts, uncles plus the grandparents purchase gifts. My DD doesn't need ANY clothing and her toys and books need updating. Of course the list would have a wide range of prices.

I haven't made a "wishlist" since my baby shower, so how does one go about letting people know that one exists--or should I just scrap the entire idea?

Thoughts?

Another question--if you make a birthday wishlist, so you mention it on the invitation or is that rude?

I personally find it extremely helpful. Kids have so many toys these days you never know if they already have what you're buying, aren't into it, etc. I wouldn't necessarily tell everyone, just whoever happened to ask what DS wanted or if I had one.

On a sidenote, I read that BRU/TRU is offering 10% cashback on all holiday purchases if you have a rewards card. It applies to any wishlist purchases also (for both the recipient and buyer as long as they both have a rewards card) so I'm definitely making a Christmas wishlist this year!

YEs! It's so helpful!!!! I did one for my twins on Amazon and told immediate family about it. Anyone else who asks what to get them for their birthday and Christmas, i tell them about it.

Re: Holiday Wishlist for you kids: Poor Taste or Brilliant Idea?

I've had a running wishlist for DS since his first birthday. I keep it mainly for me to remember things I've seen and always forget to order or buy. I do not send out an email saying hey, check out his list. When people ask, I mention it if they want to get ideas.

I've been doing this with DH for years now. He's a terrible shopper and hates shopping so I'll make an Amazon list and he just orders from there! It's not my most romantic idea of gift giving but hey, it works for us and I get cute things instead the blinkie flashlight glowstick on the checkout counter at Staples while he was buying computer parts for a customer! True story, and I got three, one in each color! Chat Icon Chat Icon

So yeah, I don't think it's rude at all. You know your family best. The people that may think it's off color, don't tell them about it. Others will be grateful.

Hey, it helps find the best price. And Amazon now has it set up now where if you do not find in their search, you can add anything from any other website.

for every birthday, I start searching for these lists, and end up calling the parents to ask them what to get. I hate doing that, I'd much rather the list.

It sucks to be the one to bring a crappy gift to a kid.

everyone asks me to make a list for jack on TRU so thats what I do. I think its helpful if you pick the age appropriate stuff so people know what your kid is able to play with, use etc.

Re: Holiday Wishlist for you kids: Poor Taste or Brilliant Idea?

I have one for my kids, but I have to get the presents, wrap them and put a card on them and then I get paid back. All the family feel that the presents they purchased in the past were not big hits so, they feel that since I know what they want I should just do it.....

I would not put it on the invitation. If people want to know, they'll ask. Or those that know about amazon will search. Make his list public.
