Holistic-type or natural approach GI doc??
A shot in the dark but I thought I'd ask...
I have been having some pretty major digestive issues for about a year and a half. I have been to three different gastroenterologists, all of whom have scoped me upwards and downwards, and otherwise are clueless. The pain in my tummy is so bad, so limiting, and I simply do not know what to do anymore.
I have read a lot of information by Brenda Watson, who is a natural doctor/author featured often on PBS. Her information is sound, but it seems like no doctors have any clue about her approach. I have adopted her recommendations, and eat an excellent diet, but am still in pain, all the time. I would love the approach of a doctor with an open mind.
Thank you so much!

If you aren't having any luck with medical doctors, try seeing a naturopath, Chinese herbalist or chiropractor. Wish I had some recommendations for you, but I don't live on long island.
Also, look into a book titled "gut and psychology syndrome" by dr. Natasha mcbride.
Hope you find some answers!

I have severe ibs-d and what I find really helps me is trying a gluten free diet. I usually go that route when it's at it's worst. A doctor suggested it to me and it does help. I see a pretty good GI doc in Malverne. Very easy to talk to. If you want his name send me a message.

Thank you so much for the helpful advice, ladies!
The book sounds wonderful, and I do think I have to consult with "alternative" practicioners as suggested.
I have in fact tried a gluten-free diet; I have been on it a year and a half and despite my tummy pain, have a lot more energy (my cylce has become regular for the first time in my life, ever, since going gluten free; coincidence? I don't think so.) I have also gone completely dairy free.

O wow, well it sounds like you are making steps in the right direction. A holistic practitioner should be able to tell if there are any deficiencies and whether you need any supplements.
Dr. Mcbride utilizes the GAPS diet for her patients. The goal is to heal the gut in order to resolve many health issues. I have heard it is a hard diet to follow, but many people seem to have success with it.

I have a fantastic doctor for you but does it take insurance and is out east on Long Island or Westchester. I had so many problems and did all of the testing with normal doctors. He was the only one to help me. Will definitely provide you w his info if you'd like.
