Yikes! So I guess our family friend Deacon doing a nice private interfaith baby blessing ceremony in our backyard was a bargain at a "thank you gift certificate to his favorite restaurant".

Just think of it as a very special occassion that you both, DS and your families will remember forever. Chat Icon

That is crazy. I just feel that they are taking advantage at the fact that DS is interfaith. My regular Church accepts a donation for the ceremony but they won't perform interfaith ceremonies so I had to use the priest/ rabbi that married us 3 years ago. I'm still going to go forward with this but omg, I am shocked.

I am protestant and I was not charged to have my kids Christened. They give you an envelope and ask for an offering that YOU can afford. It is put in the collection plate with all the others. There is no price and no pressure.

I had to pay the same amount...but it was such an amazing, beautiful ceremony that it doesn't even matter to us now, nearly six months later.

I couldn't do an interfaith ceremony idea like you are planning because I had a boy. I had to have a Bris, which cost $600 just for the rabbi to come and do the procedure....and then 3 months later we had a baptism at a church and just had to donate money.

Interesting...so you did a bris AND a baptism? Was rabbi and church both ok with this or did you just not tell them? thanks...

I would have rather done one ceremony....for both faiths. And we will if next baby is a girl. But it was important to have a Bris for DS...that's why we had to have two separate blessings for both faiths.

.

same here...cost us $700 just for the rabbi to do DS's circumcision...this time around we are doing a baby naming and it's $36 for the rabbi and a $100 donation to the temple....so happy its so much less expensive
