Holy Rusted $3000 Metal Batman! - Need car advice
I just found out that to make the necessary repairs on my car it's going to cost $3000.
And my warranty company won't coer it because I didn't complain specifically about the things they found wrong during my service. I was like "I'm sorry I don't know enough about cars to have gone in and complained about my sawy bar bushings"
I argued and they agreed to inspect the car. That could potentially cut $800 off the bill.
Beyond that it's all normal wear and maintenance!
If you don't have a car, don't buy one!!!!
I'm praying that the warranty co will pick up some of the bill.
ETA:
Please give me some advice. Do you think I shouldjust trademy car in and get a new car while it still has some value? I don't want to keep dumping money into an old car, but I don't want car payments either. Although car payments are a little bit easier to handle than $3000 at once. Do you have any advice? The car is 7 years old, has some minor surface body damage, but the major things engine, transmission, etc are fine. New alternator. Thoughts? I'm so conflicted and really just upset.
Or maybe if you know about cars you can help me figure out what really needs to be fixed.

Ugh! I've been there. We spent over $5K on cars alone last year.

it's 7 years old and has about 60K miles on it. I was having some problems which they couldn't find a few months ago and then some lights started coming on so I brought it in for 60K service for a tune up and so they would check everything..they found a LOT of problems. A lot of it is normal wear and tear (brake pads and rotors, brake fluid, carbon buildup in the throttle, time to change the timing belt at 60K, etc), but it's a LOT at once and there are about 5 items that should be covered by the warranty.
I can't believe they are giving me cr@p. I 've known the woman at the dealership for years (we used to work together at another dealership 7 years ago) and she called me and said "I have never heard of this before in my life"
Next time I'll remember whenmy car isn't handling right I'll be sure to somehow know it's a town steering boot!

Have to ask -- how much do you actually trust your mechanic? Some of those little lights are usually NOT big things...
What type of car is it?

It's the dealership, and it's someone I *do* trust. We worked together and since then wherever she goes I bring my car to her. SHe tells me when something is and isn't necessary. The absolutely necessary stuff in this case is $2400 of it.

Sure but how much would the absolutely necessary stuff cost somewhere OTHER than at the dealer?
I recently brought in my Jeep and needed a new catalytic converter that they said would be $1800 all said and done. The girl at the desk whispered to me "see if you can take it to a muffler shop, it should be less". Well, my SIL owns a Meineke and spent $670 (sure, some is "family discount" but over a grand ).
