Home birthing...
I've been reading a lot of magazines today, and it seems there's an article in almost all of them promoting home birthing. Just wondering what everyone thinks about it.

Re: Home birthing...
I give people who do it a lot of credit, but it's not for me. I wanted access to an epidural if I decided the pain was too much for me, and I wanted to be near an operating room and a NICU, god forbid something went wrong. But I'm a worrier.

I guess I should have added how I felt. I feel exactly the same as you. More power to those who do it, however, I would like to know that any emergency care the baby or I would need is right there at my fingertips, not a car ride or ambulance ride away.

Re: Home birthing...
I don't think its recommended for your first birth. Its not for me, but some people have had great experiences.
Didn't Liz (of Ron & Liz) home birth?

Re: Home birthing...
I would LOVE to do a homebirth but I don't know if I would feel quite relaxed enough to do it. I would always be wondering what if such and such happens. I know tons of people (here in CO) that have done home births.
If my midwives aren't in practice when I am pregnant next time I will strong explore my options of a homebirth with a midwife.
ETA: I'm not sure if knowing that I had a pretty much perfect natural birth with Miranda would make me more relaxed to do it at home. DH isn't big on the idea though so that might never happen.

Re: Home birthing...
I know that there's no way I'd be able to relax, especially since I ended up having to get a C-section because Christopher couldn't breathe.

Re: Home birthing...
Rachel, Jonathan was born at home. It was the most unbelievable experience. He was born in the den by fire light (same place he was conceived ). Four hours after giving birth about 40 of our friends came over. Liz was up getting them coffee etc. What a difference from the hospital birth we had with Christina. Like some have said it isn't for them and it isn't for everyone for a variety of reasons. What I will say is do some research. Liz said she would never have a hospital birth again. FM me of you would like more info.

Re: Home birthing...
I do think it must be an incredible experience to have a home birth but DH and I both feel we rather play it the safe way and be in a hospital.. God forbid anything goes wrong, I want to be where I can get the best possible care I can.
Last pregnancy my son was sick and was rushed to the NIC unit ( turned out to be just a fever and he was fine) But thank goodness I was in a hospital.

I agree with both of you.
