Home Copying? Would it irritate you?

Home copying

Lets say you are remodeling your home, and all of your friends and family love the end result. So much, that they want to remodel their homes to look like yours. They ask for walk throughs of your home, take pics and notes and ask zillions of questions.

That would really bother me...It's kind of like having your friend/family member copy your wedding, only worse.

if they took some things like a paint color but had different furniture I would be ok with it, but if they made a virtual copy I would be really upset (especially if I paid $$$ for the designer and they did not, I would feel ripped off).

My first reaction was that I would be flattered, but on second thought I'd be annoyed if I had done major work with an architect, designer, etc. and then everything was copied.

But to copy everyday things...no, I wouldn't care.

It's one thing copying paint color or furniture or area rugs but the entire look of a room? That's a bit creepy.

I would have no problem if someone wanted to copy everything I did.

Good for them. It shows that I know what I am doing.

I think its kind of petty to get annoyed at this.

Not really. I "borrowed" ideas from people I know, so I figure it's the same thing.

It wouldn't bother me if they wanted ideas... same thing as looking in a magazine for ideas... I would be bothered if they started asking for blueprints etc (happened to my parents) because you pay a lot of money for that stuff.

It depends on the extent of the copying. I have a friend who does similar. Everytime we do a home improvement project - the next week they are investigating it. I learned to laugh at it.

I did find it weird when we redid our siding and about a year later the neghbor diagonally across the street did the same style and same exact color. It was kind of like why do you want your house to be exactly the same as mine when we live so close to each other. It didn't bother me too much but I did think it was strange.

I would be flattered and also irritated. I don't mind if you ask where I bought something, but that would be the extent of my wanting to share.
I myself ask people all the time where they bought something, how much it cost, but I want my own look for our home. I would never even ask for all the specifics of what they had done

The scenario you laid out would bother me but I think everyone gets a little inspiration from other people.

To the extreme in the article, yes I would be a little annoyed if it wasn't a friend or family. For a friend or family, they probably have gone through most of the research with me so it wouldn't be a big deal to me. I would be really flattered! Of course, I have NO creativity at all so I would most likely be the one doing the copying! Everywhere I go I get ideas for stuff I would like to redo in my house. I most likely will steal ideas from friends but it isn't like I am sitting down looking at their plans and saying, "I want this exact thing". Maybe take the cabinets from this one, the backsplash from that one, the fridge from over there and the wall oven from that one. You know, more of a community stealing rather than just 1 person
Heck, everyime I see all your pics I am thinking of how I could use what you have!

It would annoy me. We have friends that copy everything we do! It gets on my nerves after a while.

It wouldn't bother me. I know it would bother my DH - the people across the street copies our driveway (shape and material) and he got so annoyed!
